Watch Sam from San Diego, CA Comments

Sam is looking for the ideal pair of noise-canceling earbuds. The ones she has now won't pair to her iPad. Leo says that she will need to put them into pairing mode before they will pair. That usually works by pressing the power button and holding it for a few seconds until the light starts blinking. Then select them on the iPad. And she won't need a special app to pair either. Alternatives? Leo likes the Jabra earbuds. But The Wirecutter likes Bose. Then Samsung.

Watch John from Solana Beach, CA Comments

John is having issues with power outages and is worried that it will brick his devices. Leo advises getting an uninterruptable power supply. That will guard against not only outages, but the power surges that arrive after the power comes back on. Leo likes TripLite. But there's also APS. John will want to avoid relying solely on power strips. They don't really do anything. But a UPS will preserve power until he can turn on the gas generator, or unplug devices. Costco has a CyberPower 900w UPS that does power conditioning with ten plugs for $129. That's a good deal.

Watch Matthew from Memphis, TN Comments

Matthew wants to know if DropBox is secure. Leo says that DropBox encrypts data to protect it, but they also hold the encryption keys. Still, it's pretty affordable. And if users are worried about them having encryption keys, they can encrypt their data before uploading to DropBox. There are also three different levels of permissions for sharing, so that adds to security. Leo also recommends Google Drive.

Watch Brian from West Hartford, CT Comments

Brian has a bunch of DVD files that he'd like to install onto his tablet, and still keep the DVD structure with menus, etc. Leo says it's really easy to do. He could copy the DVD as an ISO file but then would need a player that would understand that. VLC could help do all that. But it also depends on what tablet he is using it for. Infuse for iOS says it can do it. But Leo doesn't know if it will show the menus or just play the video. Most people just convert the video directly and install that on the tablet without the videos.

Watch Brian from Wildomar, CA Comments

Brian does a lot of video production for his church and he's looking to update his Mac. Should he go with the 15" M1 Mac? Leo says that the M1 is very fast and doesn't have to deal with overheating. Battery life is spectacular. But since everyone is expecting new MacBooks in June, Leo says to wait. The rumor is that there will be a 16" M1X Macbook very soon. Maybe even this month at the Apple iPad event. But it's a long shot. June is probably more likely.

Watch Alex from Northridge, CA Comments

Alex wants to upgrade his Mac and attach it to a MIDI keyboard to make music. He wants to be able to tether it, not rely on a network or wifi connection. Leo says that macOS doesn't support touch, so he'd have to use a simulated mouse. But it's doable. Leo would recommend going with a Thunderbolt connection in order to do it. The chatroom says that there's a Mac Compatible touchscreen Monitor on sale at Amazon. Leo says, though, that he could use an iPad for that function as well and get the touchscreen option. He can connect it via USB and run the Mac that way.

Watch Joseph from Riverside, CA Comments

Joseph is dealing with buffering when he's streaming. Leo says that he can check the speed, but that isn't the only criteria. Leo says that Joseph's old Firestick is likely the problem. He can get a new one, but Leo prefers Roku.

Watch Patty from Temecula, California Comments

Patty is having issues with coverage in her area, and it's all of a sudden. Leo says that her carrier may have turned off a tower to do maintenance. But it may also be that Patty needs to go into the store and get an updated SIM card since they recently merged with Sprint and turned off that tower. So you need a new T-Mobile Sim. Patty should also consider changing carriers. Word is, that Verizon is better in her area. But it's also the most expensive.

Watch Aaron from Newhall, CA Comments

Aaron wants to know if he should get multiple monitors for video editing, or use a larger monitor. Leo recently got a 55" OLED monitor for his, and he has plenty of screen real estate. His wife has a 49" curved monitor. HP makes a monitor with four inputs and he can switch between them. Leo also recommends using Magnet screen snapping software to go to the active window when opening. Leo would also recommend the Dell Precision monitors or the Ultrasharp.

Watch Thomas from Tustin, California Comments

Thomas is having trouble getting an email from Gmail through Outlook. Leo says he will have to be sure that IMAP is turned on in the Outlook settings. Here's a technote on what to do - https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?hl=en. Leo also recommends going with FastMail. He'll have to pay for it, but it has additional features that make it worth the money.
