Jerry runs a dart tournament and he runs it on a spreadsheet through his mobile phone. He wants to use a laptop instead to make it easier for him. Which one should he buy, and can he have two internal drives in it? Leo says that can be done and he'll want to use an SSD for his primary drive. They have special software called wear leveling that extends the life of the SSD. They are more reliable than spinning hard drives because there are no moving parts.
Doctor Mom says her husband is a stamp collector and he has to put up pictures of his stamps. His old laser printer is dying and she needs a new one that can run heavy card stock at 11x14. Leo says an inkjet printer is a better option with photo paper. Leo says that Epson makes a good printer that can handle card stock. The WorkForce 7620 printers can handle 11x17 as well.
Thomas is going to college this fall, studying computer science. He wants to get a new laptop to supplement his desktop at school. Should he buy a MacBook Pro? Leo says that he should and the reason is that Macs are built on the Linux kernel, making it ideal for computer programming. Before he buys anything, though, he should call the school and talk to the head of the Computer Science department and ask their recommendations. Worst case scenario, he can buy the Mac and then install Windows or Linux on it. The downside is that they are more expensive.
Arthur is into underwater photography and he wants to get a sports action camera. Leo says that an action camera like a GoPro is small and has a serious wide angle. If he wants a camera that can get him stills as well, Leo likes the Olympus Tough TG5. Ricoh makes a similar camera. They're very versatile for doing double duty like action shots underwater and just grabbing your favorite still shot.
Alan is going to travel and is getting a Sony RX10. Leo says that the RX10 is a great point and shoot camera because it has a huge 1" sensor and large lens that can go wide angle. It's ideal for international travel.
Julie needs an external Bluetooth speaker for events that she sponsors. Leo says she can get a Fugoo Speaker, which is great for mobile outdoor activity, but it's not that loud for large group events.
John is looking for a new camera to shoot real estate. He's thinking of the Nikon D3400. Leo says that's a good option, and it not only shoots great shots, but it can also shoot 1080p HD video. The real benefit of a DSLR is the glass and Nikon makes some of the best lenses.
Jane wants to know if there's a website where she can input what she wants in a computer for gaming and get a recommendation. Leo says that kind of exists, and she can find it at The Wirecutter. She can find out what they say is the best for her needs.
Mark is looking to buy a Chromebase. Leo says that if all he does is surf the internet and check email, the Chromebase is just as good as that Chromebook that Mark has. It's very easy to use, and secure too. He's seen a 24" Acer model on Amazon for $350. Is that a good buy? Leo says yes. It's kind of like an iMac in design, and Acer makes good stuff, but he's seen it for up to $300 more. Leo says to make sure he is comparing apples to apples with similar specs.
