iPhone 5C

Does the "c" in iPhone 5c stand for "cheap"?

Brian from Ashville, NC

Episode 1019

Josh wants to know if the c in the iPhone 5c stands for 'cheap.' Leo says it really stands for "color", and is designed to appeal to price sensitive users. This phone is really an iPhone 5 made in plastic offered in different colors, and is meant to replace the iPhone 4 and 4s in the budget marketplace. It's not all that cheap, but he could get it on contract for about $99. If he wants to buy it off contract and unlocked, it's not that much less than the iPhone 5s.

Apple to Announce New iPhone on September 10

Episode 1011

Apple will be announcing a new iPhone at an event on the Apple Campus in Cupertino on Tuesday. It's going to be a cozy event, though, because the auditorium at One Infinite Loop only holds about 120 people. Leo is guessing it'll be called the iPhone 5S, it will be available in black, white, and champagne, it'll have a fingerprint reader and an upgraded camera. There will also be an iPhone 5C with colors and a plastic back, without a fingerprint reader, and will sell at a lower cost.
