Hour 1

Q Nick in California - Dead power supply

Some old Dells are proprietary when it comes to certain things
Opening it up and comparing it to a regular power supply,
is a first to do. After that, you should know what you need.
A great place to start for a new one is
PCPower.
The chat room also recommends that those power supplies do die,
and to get a new one anyway.
Anything around 300W and greater is essential for running a new age
desktop.

Hour 2

Q Mike in Anaheim - iPhone speaker docks

The problem with a GSM phone is that is creates feedback via radio frequency, and the iPhone tends to have more problems with this than other phones.

No one knows if the new rumored 3G iPhone model will have a different shape, but most likely it should be thicker because of a larger battery and more features.

Q John in Los Angeles - Google Adwords Security

There are a lot of different ways that people could have gotten your password. Words found in the dictionary are fairly easily compromised by a brute force attack. You want a password with random numbers and letters, upper case and lower case.

There is no one definitive answer to how they got your password, but many various possibilities.

Q Erik in San Diego - Encryption

TrueCrypt is probably the best encryption software for the job. It’ll encrypt any volume, folder, or file and will encrypt it right when you double click to open the file.

Carbonite would be a great choice for online backup, and is very secure, and are HIPPA compliant.

Q Gene in Manhattan Beach - Address Book or Daylite

Daylite is more for managing a small workgroup or your clients.

Remember the Milk could also be a good option if you don’t need the complexity of Daylite.

Q Dunkin in California - Mac backup tools

Right now, Carbonite is working on a mac tool, but Mozy is the current best mac backup tool. Your best bet for video production would be to physically move the drives off site.

Heil does not make a shotgun mic, but there are some very good ones on the market. For a usb mic, your best bet would be to take a regular XLR mic and an interface like the M-Audio Fast Track USB

Hour 3

Q Charlene in Manitoba - Office 2007 files from 2003

With the Office 2007 compatibility pack, you can read Office 2007 docx compliant files from Office 2003, but not write them.

There are many companies that make wireless computer microphones, such as Audio-Technica

Q Cooper in California - Notebook Recommendations

At Fry’s, your best bet would probably be a Lenovo, Fujitsu, or a Panasonic ToughBook

Q Jane in California - Beginner Website design

There are 3 free services that most people use for blogs, and starter sites that update frequently- Wordpress, Vox, and TypePad

TypePad allows the future growth, and hosting your own domain.

Q Carl in California - Video Scrolling problems

It is almost certainly a video card issue. Since the drivers are updated, it is most likely a problem with the actual video card hardware.

You may want to try re enable the motherboard video card to see if it is a problem with the video card and/or it’s drivers.

Q Nester in Los Angeles - Keyboard Problems

There is most likely a hardware problem on the motherboard. Since HP replaced the keyboard, and the software has been restored, you should send it back to HP so they can repair the motherboard.

Q Steven in Daytona Beach - Digital vs Analogue

It is really important to understand that digital formats aren’t always better. Since the sound waves we hear live are analogue, which means it is more accurate.

Digital however has it’s advantages, such as making perfect copies, transmitting it at the speed of light, and editing.

Q Lou in California - Laptop randomly shuts off

The laptop is shutting off because heat is building, and the built in safeguards shut it down. Make sure the fans are running well, and you may want to look at a USB laptop cooling pad to help cool it down.
