Q David from Washington, DC - Using a proxy with Outlook

  • First, he is a marine biologist about to explore the coral in the Bering Sea.

  • Proxy server has to allow traffic on ports 110 and 25 for email
  • Then you set Outlook configuration to make use of the proxy
  • Take a look at Proxy Firewall

Q Router drops out sometimes on XP machine

  • Click start, run, and type in “cmd”
    • Then type “ipconfig /renew”
      • This will refresh the Internet connection on the PC
      • Gets a new IP
  • If that doesn’t work, someone else will have a solution
    • Try a static IP for the PC
    • Doing a hard reset on the router with a pin on the back of the router

  • Need to go into Windows settings to make sure microphone is being routed correctly
  • Try a USB headset
    • USB bypasses sound card completely
  • Then tell Skype to get audio from USB audio device

  • Look at the BIOS boot settings to see if it can boot from USB
