A great prank would be to take a screenshot of an active desktop and then set it as a wallpaper. Then you can watch the fun as the victim tries to click unresponsive windows.

The founder of BetOnSports.com has been arrested by the US to answer criminal charges of running a gambling website. The USA is one of the few countries in the world where Internet gambling is illegal. People are saying the US is being anti-competitive because the country still allows online gambling for horse racing.

The Copyright Royalty Board has decided to raise the rates significantly for Internet radio. Is this just a case of the record industry trying to run Internet radio out of business?

George Gilder’s book Microcosm, written in 1990, is still correct with its predictions.

  • Similar to Google Labs

  • Unique experience that is user friendly
  • You have to try it
  • Site has cool things, but takes forever for technologies to get out of labs

Q Mike - Links disabled in email

  • Can’t click on links from email client
  • This is because of phishing
    • Email phishing spams use HTML email to spoof the original bank links.
      • Then hackers can get your personal information
  • Leo’s suggestion is to copy and paste into the browser
    • That’s safe
  • It’s not safe to click any links from email
  • Disable HTML email while you’re at it
  • Also turn off the preview pane.
  • Change email clients
    • Outlook Express is outdated and has been abandoned by Microsoft

  • Has several skydiving videos on VHS
  • VHS is analog
  • Need something that will convert analog to digital
  • Can get an internal tuner to connect a VCR to the PC
  • Pinnacle Moviebox DV uses Firewire
  • Or can get a tuner and connect VCR to the back of computer

  • New inks are greatly overpriced
  • Laser printers don’t clog
    • Upfront cost is a lot
    • Cost per page is much less though

Q Todd from Detroit - Vista not seeing all RAM

  • Probably your motherboard
    • Check RAM limits
  • Also some compatibility issues with sound card on Vista x64
  • Only benefit with 64-bit Vista is access to insane amount of RAM
    • 4gb RAM will be fine in 32-bit

Q Mintu from Santa Monica - Antivirus on Windows partition on a Mac

  • You are still running Windows
  • But on Parallels, you are running a virtual machine
  • Once you have a perfect setup of Windows, make a copy of the virtual machine
    • If the VM gets infected, just throw it out and go back to the backup

Q Importing saved email into Outlook or windows Mail

  • Was using email client provided by ISP
  • Just configure Vista’s Windows Mail to connect to the server
  • When you connect to Juno server and download, it’ll delete from Juno
  • Need to figure out how to convert Juno mail to mbox
  • Juno to mbox converter available for download
  • Then can import the mbox format to Outlook or any other client

Hour 3

Q Getting Windows XP on a new computer

  • Using Windows Vista isn’t that hard
  • It’s easy to pick up and set up quickly
  • Leo’s a fan of Dell
    • Lenovo hasn’t been keeping up to snuff lately
  • Laptop should have Core 2 Duo
  • 2gb RAM is plenty
  • Get extended battery
  • Want at least a CD burner/DVD reader (combo drive)
  • Microsoft has a chart comparison of the varying editions of Vista

Q David from London - Can’t invite people to events in Microsoft Entourage

  • Got a new Mac
    • Connecting to corporate Exchange server
  • Macwindows.com has an extensive article regarding running Entourage with Exchange servers
    • That should help you
  • Business world is a little more hostile towards Macs

Q Ed from Orlando - Front Row

  • Front Row is just a front end
  • Will play anything in your iTunes/iPhoto libraries
  • Can play media from external drive if iTunes if pointed to it

Q Phil from Simi Valley - Using Ghost with RAID hard drives

  • Still should back up
  • RAID 1 works, but not 1 stop shop
  • RAID 0 is great, gives you 1 large drive
  • Make backups on external drive or CD/DVD
  • About blue screens of death: driver issues may cause them
