Windows 1903 update

Tom wanted to learn Linux, so he loaded up Linux on his PC. After a month, Windows now wants to install a feature update 1903 and now he's lost a partition. Leo says that Windows is being "bossy," thinking that it's the only OS you should have. So it "clobbers" your boot record and causes a boot-up issue. It's a common, yet complicated issue. You need to have a boot manager to sort it all out. Leo recommends GRUB. It gets loaded first and then asks you which OS you want to use. Most likely, the update redid the master boot record, damaging it.

Jerry has a Lenovo desktop with two monitors. But the most recent Windows 1903 update has screwed up his multimonitor setup. It's reversed and he can't change the display order. Lou MM from the chatroom is a Microsoft guy and he said - reset the drivers for Monitor and GPU, Device Manager-> "View->Show hidden" -> remove (uninstall) all devices monitor and GPU. Completely remove the drivers and then let Windows Plug n play figure it out. Also make sure the device driver for the display is correct. 

Charlie has a Microsoft Surface Pro 6 and got a notice this week for the Windows 1903 update. But he found an issue with it after it updated. It won't restart. It just spins. He tried several solutions online, and it didn't work. Leo says to try Windows +R to go into restore mode. If there's no important data on the machine, Leo recommends going to another computer and download the Windows Media Creation tool. Create a USB key and reinstall to the surface. He may need to go into the BIOS to get it to boot to the USB key. But reinstalling Windows is the solution.

Carmine is having issues updating Windows. He's behind and can't update to "1809." He's on 1803. Leo says that 1809 wasn't a good update, and Microsoft just skipped it and moved on to 1903. Eventually, Carmine will get it. There are ways to force it, and he can "check for updates." But Leo says that feature updates aren't as important as security updates. Eventually, it'll come.
