Jack wants to start a vlog on motocycles. He bought a GoPro Session for it, but he can't record audio to it. So he's looking for an external recorder that he can sync to. Leo says his smartphone will work for that. He could get the Rode Reporter and Rode Rec app. All he'll need at that point is to get an external mic with adapter for the phone.
Scott's daughter wants a camera with a flip out screen so she can look at the viewfinder image while she's recording for her YouTube channel. A lot of camcorders do that. Some DSLRs do it, but they may not go all the way around.
Todd has a business and wants to start doing video blogging, or "vlogging." What equipment does he need? He'll be starting from his desk but he wants to know what camera to get. Leo says it depends on what Todd is going to be doing. Todd wants to have a set with a background screen. Leo says that in Todd's case, a camcorder with an external microphone jack is a good option. DSLRs do this. Point and shoots would help keep within his $500 price range and the video quality is really good.
Jonathan is going to VidCon. He does video game commentary and is looking foward to learning more. Leo says VidCon is a great place to go. He also recommends checking out TWITCH, which offers not only playing, but streaming game play online.
What camera does he need for vlogging at Vidcon? He needs a wireless hookup. Leo says that a wireless microphone solution is more expensive and it's a pain because of interference. Stick with a wired solution for that. Leo says a lot of people just use their smartphones.
