Evelyn fears she's broken her camera because her SD cards can't be read. Leo suspects that she pulled out the card while it was writing and it damaged the reader in the camera. She may be able to reset the camera, which she can find information for in the manual. That could bring it back to default settings, which could solve the problem. She could also download the firmware for the camera and reflash it.
Bill has a Sony Smart TV, and it has to be rebooted pretty often due to the computer crashing. Leo says this is why the industry doesn't need a computer inside of everything. A TV shouldn't need to be rebooted, so that points to something being wrong with the TV. Sony may have a reboot procedure that can wipe it and reinstall the OS. Since it runs Android TV, there should be a way to do it, but the question is how. Only Sony can tell him that.
Roger says that when he puts his Asus laptop into hibernation, when it wakes up, it reboots. Leo says it sounds like Windows power and sleep issues, which have been a common malady in the operating system. Leo says he should look in his power settings to see what it's set for. It sounds like it turns itself off instead of going to sleep.
Roger is having issues with his SSD. It's slowing down and takes a long time to access his data. Leo says the drive is only a year old and the computer a few years old, but there can be a drive failure, even in new SSDs. It's time to replace it. He could try running an OS from a USB key and see what happens. If he doesn't have a similar issue, that clearly shows the hard drive has a problem.
Cynthia wants to control her Amazon Fire Stick with Amazon Alexa, but she can't. Shouldn't it work together? Leo says not necessarily. At least not yet. Alexa is getting smarter all the time, though.
Cynthia can talk to the Fire remote, so she doesn't really need the Echo for that. Since she paid over $180 for it, Leo recommends returning it and get the $50 Echo Dot instead.
Dave has a TiVo and his one gripe with it is how it handles search; the search screen doesn't disappear. Leo thinks it's a bug that has to be addressed by TiVo. Software is hard and bugs happen. TiVo is aware of it as a known issue, so it's only a matter of time until they fix it. TiVo has been sold recently to Rovi and Leo is concerned with what the future holds.
Arthur bought a Google Chromebook Pixel from a few years back off eBay. Leo says that laptop was an excellent buy back then. It was well put together. But unfortunately, it won't support the Android store, which means he won't have access to all the Android apps like a newer Chromebook does. Lately, his Chromebook audio has quit completely.
Joe installed a TV, Blu-ray player, and a Yahama A/V receiver for his friend, but they couldn't get the audio return channel to work. Leo says one of the HDMI ports on the TV should be labeled ARC. They'd plug that into a port on the receiver, and usually it just works. Joe went through the settings in the Yamaha and he had to turn on HDMI control. After doing that, the Blu-ray player now wakes up anytime he changes the input. This is called CEC, and it automatically turns on the TV and sets the input to that device when you turn it on.
Amy is experiencing very slow access to internet and remote desktop, and sometimes it just times out. Leo suggests shutting down remote desktop to see if her browser works better, as it may be taking up resources. It's possible malware may be the culprit, but if she's not seeing anything with MalwareBytes, that's unlikely. It could be something simple like a bad network cable to her router. So she should start easy with swapping out the cable. Since her other computer works just fine, that eliminates the internet connection itself. So we know it's a problem with this particular computer.
Donald has an Acer Aspire PC running Windows Vista and he's getting a steady blinking light. Leo says that the blinking can mean something. It's like the "Power On Self Test." The motherboard battery may have died, and the light is telling him to replace it. That's the cheapest and easiest fix. If that doesn't fix it, he should look at his desktop power cord. Then he can move on to the power supply.
