Victor's HP All-in-One speakers quit working after he upgraded to Windows 10. Leo says that it could be a software issue, but it could also be that the cable that comes from the speaker itself may have become unseated. Leo says it's more likely that it's a driver issue, though. Victor should try Windows Key + X for the Device Manager and look into the settings for his audio driver and see if there's an X or a triangle with an exclamation mark to indicate a driver failure. Victor says it doesn't show his speakers at all and he can't install the drivers to get it going.
Richard watches the BBC through their iPlayer (and likely through a VPN) and now it suddenly takes forever to load on his laptop. It's OK on his desktop, though. Leo says the BBC has probably locked it down for international users. The BBC gets its money through a TV license fee that viewers pay for. So many people use a VPN to get around that.
Vino has a problem with his TV not getting the signal from DirecTV. Leo says it sounds like a bad handshake via HDMI. The settings may be wrong. He may have to change out the HDMI cable, though. Vino should also check to see if he has the most recent firmware.
Diane's laptop did an automatic update of Windows 10 and she got a Blue Screen of Death. Leo suggests that with her laptop being about five years old, there's a good chance that her hard drive has died. It could also be a motherboard failure or memory failure. But it's definitely a hardware issue. Leo suggests taking it in to IBM as a laptop that old could be at the end of the line. She should find out how much it costs to fix it, and if it's more than a few hundred, it's time to buy a new one.
Kyle is having trouble updating Windows 10 to the Spring Creator's Edition on his HP PC. HP has had problems with the Spring Creator's Update and Leo has a hunch the fall update will have similar issues. Leo says not to force the update. Microsoft will only offer the update when the machine is ready to receive it. It locks up after about 35%. Leo says to get it as a stand alone update and update it that way. He should download it directly as a file and install from a thumb drive. If that doesn't work, he can try the latest update from Microsoft with the media creation tool.
Don is having issues with his browser extensions. They had been slow, but now it's worse. Leo says that it could be due to Chrome's built-in sync option that will transfer his bookmarks and themes to another browser. You'd think that Sync would fix it. Leo says that Don should try resetting Chrome to see what happens. He'll have to reinstall his extensions afterwards. If he's going to do that, though, he should try deleting Chrome and then reinstalling. He's also running into verification issues.
Laura has an iPhone, but it constantly goes into speaker phone mode. How can she stop that? Rich says that there's probably a setting in accessibility that is enabled that is automatically activating her speaker phone. She should check Settings > General > Accessibility for it.
The left speaker on Steve's computer stopped working. He replaced the speaker, replaced the cables, updated the drivers, and even used Linux on a USB stick. None of that worked. What's left? Rich says to try plugging a headphone into the jack to see if that works. Steve thinks that besides the drivers, he thinks that it's still a software issue. He should look at the speaker settings, and should try a different USB plug.
Joseph built his own gaming PC but every once in awhile it reboots itself. Leo says it could be updating itself. But it also may be that a component isn't working well when it's cold, but when it heats up, it will work just fine. So an errant solder could be the culprit. It sounds like a hardware issue. Joseph should keep in mind that when he builds his own PC, he is his own tech support. He should check out the motherboard manufacturer and see if there's a recall.
Joe connected his Bose network-connected speakers to his Mac, but he can't get the music to play via iTunes. Leo says it sounds like the Bose software is conflicting or doesn't know where to look for his music in the iTunes library. Joe should look in his settings to see where it thinks his music library is. It may just be looking in the wrong place. He did that, but the Bose SoundTouch software also only shows 30 of his files. Leo says it could have damaged his playlist database.
