Travel Tip - When traveling overseas, always pay in local currency. If they ask if you'd like to pay in US dollars, you'll likely get charged a conversion fee with your credit card. Also. Let your bank know that you're traveling overseas. Also, pay using a credit card. Your debit card is no protected if the card gets stolen or hacked.
Another tip - use a VPN while traveling with your internet access. You'll actually save money by pretending you're in a different country and you're booking flights. Leo uses a travel router, which protects him overseas.
Johnny Jet's favorite airplane is the 787. It's pretty nice. But the A380 is pretty nice. Problem is, Airbus planes tend to break down more often.
App of the Week - London Tube Map. Gives you an interactive experience to travel via the London Underground subway system. It will also send you alerts of delays and changes. Easy to use with step by step instructions. iOS and Android.
There's a great new water park for kids with special needs. It's in San Antonio, TX and it's called Morgan's Wonderland. They're doing amazing things, like taking a wheelchair on a water slide, and they want to do the same thing with a zip line. Check out this article from Time Magazine for more on what they're doing.
Rich was complaining that he has had problems booking airlines and hotels through a third party site. Johnny Jet says that third party sites can cause issues and having a person like a travel agent to deal with them can always be helpful. It also helps to be nice to gate agents when flying. Always be looking at your flights and seat assignments to be sure that there are no changes that they don't tell you about.
The new buzz word for what Johnny Jet does, is "travel influencer," but Johnny Jet considers himself a travel enthusiast and publisher.
Website of the week - BlueRibbonBags.com. It's travel insurance for your luggage. It comes with an app that updates you when your bags have been loaded, unloaded, and arrived at luggage pickup. It's only $5 a piece. If your bag is missing after four days, they will send you a check for $1,000. No questions asked.
Lately, Johnny Jet has been frustrated with Uber and Lyft drivers that are late, and have no room to stow his luggage. So he's starting to use Blacklane. It's about two to three times more expensive, but it's more of a limo service with professional drivers. It's all around the world and they use roomy cars. They show up early and wait for you, not the other way around. And you can use your phone to order it.
Travel Tip of the Week - Wear your backpack in the front of you when you're walking around. There are a lot of pickpockets who can get into your backpack without you knowing it, but if you wear the pack in the front, they can't get to it.
Website of the Week - US State Department Travel Advisories: Information for the country your visiting. It'll include scams, problem places, and other travel advisories. And also read Canada's, Great Britain's, and even Australia's.
Leo wanted tips traveling to Barcelona. Johnny Jet says go to Park Güell. That's a must. But unfortunately, they charge for it now, so bring cash. He also recommends wearing a Scott E Vest. They're's tons of pockets and you can bring just about anything with you. If you have keys or cameras, put a TILE GPS tracker on it.
