Scott Wilkinson and the Super Stream

Scott Wilkinson

Episode 1665

Scott Wilkinson joins Leo to talk about the Super Bowl and how he usually just watches the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. But this year, he's interested in the game because of the 4K HDR streaming options you can enjoy. Leo says it's through the Roku Ultra and the FoxSports app. It'll also be broadcast in 60p. So 4K 60p and HDR. But it almost didn't happen, as Fox Sports and Roku had to sign a last-minute deal to enable it to happen. But Roku isn't the only option. Amazon Fire enabled sticks and TVs will also be able to do it.

Scott Wilkinson ... Super TV Time

Episode 1560

Scott says that this weekend is a great time to buy a new TV, ahead of the Super Bowl. But this year, the deals aren't as good as they were during Black Friday last november. But they're still pretty good. The LG B8 55" OLED is selling for $1500, $800 off. The 65" model is $1000 off. The next step is the C8, and the 55" is only $200 more. But Scott says it has a more powerful processor and the upscales are better. So it'll look better and is definitely worth spending the extra money for. Samsung's 55" QLED is 24% off at Best Buy, but you can get an even better deal at Costco or Sam's Club.

LG B7A OLED

Episode 1460

The day before the Super Bowl is the biggest TV buying day of the year — even bigger than Black Friday. That's because it's also the end of the model year and they want to clear out the old models to make room for the new models. Leo says that there are some times you want to wait for the latest and greatest, but right now is not that time. LCD and OLED TVs are still dominant and will be for a few more years until MicroLEDs take hold. So if you were waiting, don't! If you have an HD TV and wonder if you should buy 4K, now is the time because of HDR 4K TVs.
