Penny scanned her computer with Windows Defender in the hopes that the popups would stop in EDGE. But they haven't. She keeps getting a message that she has a trojan. Leo says it's likely a "phishing scam" where it attempts to get you to click on a link and get you to renew McAfee. Leo says there's likely an "add-on" in her settings that Penny needs to remove. Click on three dots in the upper right of EDGE, then settings-> More -> EDGE extensions. Then select REMOVE to any extension you don't want.
Now that EDGE has replaced Internet Explorer as Microsoft's default browser, the company has announced a new Kids mode that can be turned on in the settings. There are two modes based on age .... 5-8, and 9-12, which can whitelist various websites and block others. Leo says that whitelisting will help parents to prevent their kids from going to sites they don't want them to visit. If a kid wants to go to a page that's not on the White List, a parent can be asked for permission.
If you are a Windows 10 user and browsing the web, you should stop using Internet Explorer. At least if you're not forced to for work reasons. It is outdated and insecure at this point, but luckily there is a much better alternative by Microsoft. Their "Edge" browser can import your settings/bookmarks from IE and provide more security. It is also much faster than Internet Explorer and behaves much like Google's Chrome browser. You can read PDFs in Edge built-in, instead of using Adobe Reader.

Carl is a teacher and is struggling with internet lag while doing distance learning, even though he has a UVerse provided wifi extender to help with the problem. Should he buy his own? Leo says that just because you have an extender, that doesn't mean there isn't another issue. It could be your bandwidth is too slow. And WiFi is often not the best way to handle video conferencing. Wiring your connection will always be faster and better. More consistent. You also want to pay attention to your upload speed. If your upload video speed is too slow, it's going to cause lag.
Greg's parents were using EDGE on Windows 10, and it shut off and went into a reboot loop. They took it in and got it reset. But how can they avoid it in the future? Rich says that it sounds like his parents got bit by some malware after clicking on something. It's very easy to fall victim to. So encourage them to not click on any links or open attachments. Also, make sure their software is up to date. Of course, you could replace their Windows machine with a Chromebook. That would be very secure, and if something happens, you can powerwash it back to normal.
Steve is having trouble with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. After about 2 minutes, both apps crash. Leo says that it could be malware infecting his browsers. But more likely there's a render driver that both browsers use which is causing the crash when he visits certain websites. Leo recommends doing a thorough scan using Windows Defender, and he should also run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool from the command line. To get to that, he can press the Windows Key and type MRT. Leo also suspects that Java is broken.
The Edge browser on Jim's Windows 10 computer has disappeared! What can he do? Leo says to hit the Windows key and type E-D-G-E. If it pops up, it's still on his computer and he probably accidentally deleted the shortcut. He can just right click on it and select "PIN to task bar" or "PIN to startup". Then he'll have it back. If it's really gone, he can always reinstall it from the Microsoft app store.
Anne wants to know how to open a PDF file. All she gets is a blank page. Leo says that she'll have to have a browser that supports PDF, and Internet Explorer doesn't. It needs a helper, like Adobe Acrobat Reader, to read it. Google Chrome and Edge read it natively. Leo recommends downloading a new browser or Acrobat Reader.
Debbie is having problems opening the Microsoft Edge browser. It opens fine on her husband's account, but not hers. Leo says that browsers are vulnerable to that and if there's an improperly cached file, it won't open. A bad extension could also cause it. Resetting her browser may fix it, and she can do that from settings.
