Leo got the iPhone 8 and says that if you have the iPhone 6S, you're really not missing all that much. Yes, it's faster, but not that much faster. It's like having a Ferrari, but you can't open it up. It's a fast phone, but not worth $1,000. Leo also says that according to sales figures, the iPhone 8 isn't really selling as well as the previous model. Are people waiting for the iPhone X on October 27th?
Leo says that he's like many Apple fans, trying to decide on whether to buy the iPhone X, the iPhone 8, or just wait. Leo says that he bought them because he wants to review them. Leo also says that most people are calling the iPhone X the "ex," not the 10. Leo says that you won't be able to get the iPhone X until probably next year due to parts shortages for the FaceID feature. So should you wait or buy the 8? There's no real rush to get the new iPhone. It's easy to skip a generation or two, and that way, when you get a new phone, you can experience an exponential bump in performance.
Chris says that the iPhone X will give you technically better images because the camera has been improved. The Portrait Lightning is also a great new feature. Auto HDR has improved, with a wider color range. It also has a slow sync flash, which gives the background more light to make it look better. 4K/60 in video mode or 240 fps at 1080p. It has a lot of options. But just remember, even with all of these new photo features, it won't make a good photo composition for you. You still have to decide what looks best.
Armondo has an iPhone 6 Plus. He's ready to upgrade but he's unsure if he should go for the iPhone 8 or wait a month for the iPhone X. Rich says that Armondo should save the money and go with the iPhone 8. He doesn't need the top of the line right now because it's a first model, and he'll be just as happy with the iPhone 8.
Apple unveiled the new iPhone 8, 8 Plus and the tenth anniversary iPhone X, but Leo says he's not really thrilled. Leo says it's more of a refresh of the iPhone 7, and the iPhone X is too expensive. But it does have wireless charging via Qi, which is good.
Leo is more excited about the new Android phones coming out, especially the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The Note 8 also has wireless Qi charging, and an OLED screen. And you don't have to wait until November or later to get it, like the iPhone X.
This week, Apple christened the new Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park with the announcement of the LTE version of the Apple Watch Series 3, which shares your iPhone's phone number and will work independently from the phone. The Apple TV will be 4K with HDR, and 4K movies will be the same cost for rental and purchase. Any HD titles you already have will be automatically upgraded to 4K as well.
Code embedded into beta releases of iOS 11 reveal that Apple may be calling the new iPhone the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. The same code indicates that the tenth anniversary iPhone will be called iPhone X. But Leo doesn't buy it. He says that Apple has never used the X in anything but OS X, and that the current trend for higher end models is to call them the Pro line. So Leo believes the tenth anniversary iPhone will be called the iPhone Pro. But the 10th anniversary is still significant and unique. We'll find out on Tuesday, Sept. 12th.
September 12th, Apple is poised to announced the next generation iPhone. Rumored to be called the iPhone X, it may have an OLED screen, face ID, upgraded cameras, faster chips, and all the usual refinements. Yet, no home button, no touch ID button, and not even an on/off switch that we know of. Tune in to TWIT on Tuesday for our live coverage.
