Can I connect my iPad to an external monitor?

Frank has an iPad mini that he wants to connect to a computer monitor. Can he do that? Leo says that the iPad Mini only has a lightning connector. But you can get an HDMI to lightning adapter from Apple that will enable connecting to it. Look for an MFI certified adapter. It'll also have a lightning connector too so you can charge it as well. You can also Airplay to a TV which supports it. The iPad Pro, however, does support Type C, which connects to a monitor. Can he add a mouse? Leo says you can; it's in the accessibility settings. But it's really made to use touch.

They also support the new Apple Pencil. But for a few hundred dollars more, you can get the iPad Pro, with a larger, bezeless screen.

Sharon wants to get a new iPad mini but she hears they may get discontinued. Leo says nobody really knows, but since they haven't updated it in awhile, everyone thinks it may not be updated. Leo says it'll still be good if she wants to buy one now. The latest models, if they aren't discontinued, will be updated to have Face ID, but Leo says that's not really a big deal. So if she wants to buy one, she should go ahead.

Mike wants to know what he needs to use his iPad on Wi-Fi. Leo says that any iPad will work on Wi-Fi. If he has LTE, however, he could use it anywhere. But for Wi-Fi, a regular iPad will work just fine. Since Mike is traveling internationally, Leo recommends also getting a MiFi card, which he can put a local SIM in for Wi-Fi. But since Mike is in the US Virgin Islands, international data roaming won't be an issue. Leo recommends getting an AT&T carrier version of the iPad. Leo likes the iPad Mini for traveling.

Greg has a Mavic Pro Drone and he wants a new tablet to pair with the controller for a larger screen. Leo says that the Mavic is a very nice quadcopter with a nice camera in it. Leo says the iPad Mini is a good one, but the standard iPad would also be good, and larger. He should look to spend between $300 and $400 for it. Sadly, Samsung has stopped upgrading the software for their Galaxy Tab line, so that really won't be a good idea.

Mel's wife is having issues with her Kindle Paperwhite and she wants a new reader. Should he get her a tablet? Leo says he can, but remember that the Kindle Paperwhite is easier to read on than a tablet. But they're limited in what they can do and sales have plummeted on Kindles since the iPad came out. Leo says that Amazon updated the Kindle Paperwhite recently, so Mel may want to get that. But Leo recommends getting her the iPad Mini. Then she gets the best of both worlds.

Why can't I use AirPlay with my iPad Mini?

Corrine has an iPad Mini that she uses with Airplay and Apple TV. She upgraded to iOS 8, but she can't see it. Apparently there is a mirroring issue with the Mini after a recent update. Leo says it's important to also update her Apple TV when she updates her iPhone. If she does that, chances are, it'll work.

The chatroom also says she has to scroll deeper into the menu to see it. Leo says she can go into her contacts application in the Mac, merge all of her contact duplicates and it'll merge them on the next sync.
