Justin is back and he's trying to decide which Windows computer to get. He's looking at the Dell XPS 13 and the Sony Vaio 13. Leo has several of the XPS 13s, they're very reliable, and have gorgeous bezel-less displays. The only downside is that the camera is placed on the bottom of the screen, not the top because of that design. If Justin does a lot of video conferencing, he'll have to keep that in mind.
After a bad paper jam, Anne's computer won't print anything to her printer. She can print a test page from the printer itself, though. She went to "Devices and Printers" and saw a warning that there were problems detected with the Synaptics HID device. Leo says that's actually her trackpad. Then she had a warning message that said that "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems." This could be related to the Synaptics failure. Leo thinks she may have some hardware failure on the motherboard.
Jim has several Windows 8.1 machines, and the keyboards on seven of them simultaneously stopped working. He found a fix for it, but he's wondering what happened. Leo said that it was probably an HP update that broke the HP keyboard drivers. They have a separate update from Windows that is always running enabling them to push updates on the fly. It sounds like their update ran afoul with Windows and caused the keyboards not to work. To turn off the HP updates, he should type Windows + Q, type "HP Update" and turn it off.
Hal bought a new HP and recently it's been running very slow. Leo says that if Hal is running third party security software, then it's likely that his antivirus is causing the slow down. Leo advises getting rid of it. Windows' own Microsoft Defender security software is good enough. He'll also find that he may have to download their uninstaller to do it.
Russell has been "banned" by HP from being able to buy a computer anymore because he complained about a broken computer they had sent him. Leo says that the PCs from HP have improved since 5 years ago. The ban is still in place, though. Leo says he's never heard of that before. It's odd, but he should just take his business elsewhere! Leo says that Dell is very good. The customer service has fallen since prices have dropped, but the computers are still very good. He should want to get a higher end model.
Phillip can't get his Chromebook to print to his printer through Google Cloud Print. Leo says that it may be that Phillip's HP printer doesn't support cloud printing. Google says that HP printers are supported, but it doesn't mean all printers are. Phillip says he has to keep his Windows machine on and connected or the printer goes offline. Leo says that if the printer is shared through the computer, then it would have to be that way. If the printer is a Wi-Fi printer and is connected directly to his Wi-Fi network, then it should be connected to Cloud Print.
Lois has an HP computer that is running very slowly. She's wondering if there's any program she could get to speed it up. Leo says there are cleaners, but none of them are any good and she should avoid them. The only and best way to fix a slow computer is to start over fresh. Lois should backup her data and then run the recovery disk, wipe the drive, and reinstall Windows. Most computers nowadays don't come with recovery disks, but computers 5 years ago likely did come with them.
HP has split off into two separate companies. HP Ink will handle the consumables like printers and ink, and HP Enterprises will handle the business side of things with Enterprise applications.

Jim just bought an HP laptop with Windows 8.1, and he doesn't like the operating system. He's wondering if he can get Windows 7 instead. Leo says he could buy Windows 7, or he could call HP and tell them he doesn't like that operating system. It used to be possible to select Windows 7 on a new computer from certain manufacturers instead of Windows 8.1, but that's becoming less common now that Windows 10 is out. Leo says Jim will get an offer to upgrade to Windows 10 soon, and Leo suggests doing that. Windows 10 is a lot more like Windows 7.
Lou has to buy a new laptop. He's looking at Dell and HP, and he hears that they are second and third best. Leo says that stats can be deceiving. On paper a laptop can look great, but in reality, his experience could be different. Usability is more than specs. He'll have to dig deeper. HP looks great on paper, but some features can be annoying. Another frustration of HP is that they traditionally have been loaded up with trial or bloatware. They've gotten better, but still nowhere near for Leo to recommend. They're also about to spin off the PC division. So its future is uncertain.
