Why Am I Getting HDCP Errors on My TV?

Greg is having a problem with HD and Dish Network. Leo says it's probably copy protection called HDCP, and if one thing in the chain isn't HDCP compliant, you'll get an error. Chances are, it's your cables. Make sure they are HDCP compliant. According to Satellite Guys, there was a firmware update on the DISH box that is causing intermittent HDCP errors. Here's a tech note about it.  An HDMI splitter can also bypass the HDCP copy protection.

Rich is an audiobook narrator and he just finished building his own vocal booth to record his audio files. But since the booth is so small, he wants to have his laptop on the outside with a monitor connected and a monitor on the inside. WIll an HDMI splitter do the job with a 2012 MacBook Air? Leo says that a splitter can degrade the image quality. The Air also has a mini display port, so he'd need an adapter for HDMI. They're pretty cheap. The Air won't really have an issue with the splitter.

Frank recently got a 4K smart TV and he lives in a remote area. He has a limited amount of bandwidth per month, so streaming 4K content would quickly put him over his cap. Leo advises taking his TV off the internet and just use a UHD Blu-ray player. Then he can rent Blu-rays from Redbox or Netflix. Leo recommends the Xbox One S. It's a game console, but it also has a Blu-ray DVD player built-in for games.
