Is the iPhone X camera good enough, or should I get a DSLR?

Nikon D7500

Episode 1498

Steve from Westminster, CA

Steve just became a father and wants to know how good the iPhone is for a camera. Leo says it does the job, but it's not going to be as good as a pocket camera or a DSLR. Since Ken is a Nikon user, he's going to want to stay in the family. Steve was looking at a D7500, which Leo says is good, and he was also considering the EOS 80D. Leo says the 80D is nice too, but that's Canon, so it would use different lenses.

What camera sensor is better, full frame or APS-C?

Pentax K-5 16.3 MP Digital SLR

Episode 954

David from Northridge, CA

David has a Pentax K5 camera, which has an APS-C sensor. Should he get a full frame sensor instead?

APS-C sensors are usually used on less expensive DSLRs because of their smaller footprint. Even though the APS-C may have the same number of pixels as a comparable full frame sensor, that's the difference. A full frame sensor will have better low light sensitivity. If he doesn't notice the difference, then it really isn't an issue for David.
