Alan uses iDrive for his cloud backup, and he's recently started getting a "password mismatch" error. Leo has had similar issues, and he thinks it's either security software or ad blockers that is causing that kind of issue. Sites are trying to find out more about you, and the blockers on our system and browsers are fighting against that. That prompts the page developers to try and bypass it. Leo suggests turning off wifi on your mobile device and see if you can do it. If so, you know there's something in the network router that's blocking it.
Bob is having issues with booting up a few of his computers. He gets a message that says "press F1 to continue" and then it doesn't do anything - it just crashes. Leo says it's usually related to the keyboard. The computer can't see it, and pressing F1 wakes up the keyboard and lets the computer recognize it. It could also be a failed keyboard since Bob is using a really old PS2 keyboard.
Mike got an error message that something had stopped working when he installed DropBox. He uninstalled it, but the error is still popping up. Leo says it sounds like the uninstall didn't get rid of all the necessary files and so the Windows registry keeps referring to them. He should go to DropBox and see if they have a removal tool. He can check his services in Task Manager too. That will tell him what it is and he can at least disable it.
Gloria's Acer Windows 7 computer has an error code which pops up when she turns it on. Leo says that is a known error with Acer computers that points to an issue with the BIOS. The BIOS is a chip with a small program in it that runs immediately after turning it on. If there's an error message, it sounds like it could be corrupted or damaged. It could also be causing Gloria's inability to install Windows 10.
Raphael has a MacBook Pro running OS X and he's getting an error in GarageBand. Leo says it sounds like a RAM error, and it could be telling Raphael that his Mac is a little slow for the music project he's working on. When he continues to add tracks, it takes more memory. One solution may be to download the previous version, Garage Band 6. Apple is still offering it for download. Turning off plugins will help as well.
Michele spent some time in the Microsoft Event viewer and she's seeing a lot of registry errors that she's worried about. Leo says that's perfectly normal. The event viewer is just a log of errors and it really doesn't mean anything. So she shouldn't fall for the scam that uses the event viewer to get her to buy something. If she wants to, she can clear it out.
Aaron is having an issue where all of his computers get redirected to "CloudFlair.com" when he tries to access Google. Leo says that Aaron's ISP is doing that. It's a service that specializes in protecting people against attacks. Could he change to OpenDNS? Leo says sure, but he may end up getting a different, but similar message. This is something browsers do with expired or mismatched certificates. Leo says that Aaron should try using Google's DNS, which is 188.8.131.52.
Juan is getting a strange data CRC error. Leo says that's likely a soft error, but it may also indicate a physical error on the hard drive itself. Soft errors are easy because he can always just format the hard drive and reinstall.
Leo recommends SpinRite, which can scan the hard drive, move the data, and mark bad sectors as unusable. Then, at least he'll buy some time for that hard drive. But Leo says that hard drives are so cheap, that once he gets the data off, he should just get a new one.
Leo says that just happens when Internet Explorer is crashing. The web is an unpredictable place and bad code can be causing it to crash. Leo advises using the most recent version for her operating system, which would be Internet Explorer 8. She should make sure to run Windows Update regularly. In fact, set it to automatic so she doesn't have to worry about it. Also, once a month Leslie should be running Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool. Click Start - Run - type MRT and hit enter.
