Jeremy switched carriers to Time Warner and now his wireless printer doesn't work right. It'll print fine and then later, the connection drops and he has to re-enter it. Leo says the latest drivers from the printer manufacturer should fix it. He had that issue and updating the drivers from the manufacturer fixed it.
Tim has an old Toshiba Satellite laptop and the keys on the keyboard have stopped working and it's spreading. If he upgrades to Windows 10, will that fix it? Leo says it could be a physical flaw. He should try plugging in a wired keyboard. If it's software, the keys won't work. If they do, then he'll know it's a hardware issue with that keyboard.
Brett bought a Windows 10 computer from Dell and the audio presets are missing. Leo says that sounds like a driver issue based on an incomplete recovery. Brett should go to the Dell website and get the updated Windows 10 drivers. He could also try deleting the sound drivers, reboot and then let Windows reinstall them. It could be that the DVD installed the wrong driver.
VJ has an Epson printer/scanner and he can't connect to his Windows 10 laptop even though he has the latest drivers. Leo says that upgrades do break connectivity sometimes and it could be that VJ installed the 32 bit drivers instead of the 64 bit drivers. It may be worth trying third party software. VJ should try unplugging and plugging it back in. See if the USB driver is seeing the scanner. He should press Windows Key + X for Device Manager. He also should try a different USB port.
Jim has an HP OfficeJet 6700 printer and he's having trouble printing in color now that he's upgraded to Yosemite. Leo says that HP probably has an updated driver for it. He should click on the drivers button at HP.com and it'll give him the drivers for his OS X version. He should just be sure he gets the driver that's compatible with OS X Yosemite. It's up to the manufacturers, especially with older hardware, to update the drivers and sometimes a software update will simply break connectivity.
David is getting a blue screen when trying to use Skype and Windows 10. Leo says uninstall it. Then he should reinstall the desktop version of it, not the Metro version. The issue could be with a driver for his video camera. If the camera is built-in, then he'll have to go to his laptop manufacturer (in this case Lenovo) and get the latest drivers. While he's at it, he should get all of them.
Paul has a Dell XPS series desktop that's about six years old. He's getting a message that it's not available for a Windows 10 upgrade. Leo says that could be. Although that computer is more than capable of running Windows 10. Leo advises updating the motherboard drivers. First he should roll back to Windows 7. Then he can update the drivers, run the compatibility checker, and then try installing again.
Robert has an old Brother all-in-one printer, but it isn't supported with Windows 10 or even Windows 8. He can only do basic printing, but no scanning. How can he get around that? Leo says it's frustrating when support ends for a product. Leo says that Robert could get a third party scanner driver that will work. Ideally, he'll want a solution from Brother, but Leo says Hamrick's VueScan is a good option.
Michael updated to Windows 10, and now he doesn't have internet access. He went to Microsoft's website and downloaded it. Leo says he did it that way and a lot of devices didn't get the needed drivers. So Leo thinks that being impatient and updating before Microsoft pushes it is not the way to go. It's much better to upgrade when Microsoft says your copy is ready, and that way you get all the drivers and proper activation.
Chuck runs Windows 7 via Boot Camp on the Mac. After Windows did an update, it wouldn't boot up anymore. It would just keep rebooting by the time it would get to the login screen. He can boot up into Safe Mode and do a restore, but it doesn't help.
