Terry is looking to get his wife a laptop for Christmas, and he's thinking about a Chromebook since she tends to get in trouble online. Can she do photo editing with a Chromebook? Leo says she can, as there are online photo editors and plugins for Google Chrome. Google Photos is the best with basic photo tools and filters. There's also Polarr Photo Editor, an extension to Chrome. It's like Photoshop for Chrome.
Dan wants to get his mother a Chromebook. Is a 12" a good one? Leo says it's a little small for older eyes, but she could plug in an external monitor and keyboard.
Norene's Windows Vista computer isn't being updated anymore, so she needs a new computer. Leo says that Chromebooks are more secure, simpler to use, and can do about 95% of what a Windows machine can do. Norene should check out the Dell 13" Chromebook. It's around $400-650.
Shirley is retired and is looking for a computer. Leo says that a Chromebook is probably the best option for Shirley, and she'll need an internet connection. Shirley could also get a Chromebook with LTE.
Another option is a tablet like an iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab. She shouldn't get a cheap one, though. Leo advises getting one with LTE so that she doesn't have to rely on Wi-Fi. T-Mobile is a good option. Leo also advises a deal of $25 with unlimited data from them when she buys the tablet up front. That's a good deal.
Carol has an HP Chromebook and her battery icon has vanished. She can't get it back. Leo says it's likely a bad battery and HP should replace it. They're wasting her time if they're refusing to replace it when it's under warranty. If it's not the battery, there still could be a physical issue. She should send the entire computer back and get the Dell Chromebook 13.
Jim's dad gets bit by malware often and has to wipe his hard drive several times a year. How can he stay protected? Leo says a great option is to get him a Chromebook. They're more secure, simpler to use, and if all he's doing is surfing and email then a Chromebook is ideal.
Les has an older PC and he's having issues accessing his data. He's looking to get a new PC -- should he get a desktop or laptop? He uses Photoshop a lot. Leo says that Photoshop is available on both Mac or PC. Les is on a budget so a Mac is out. What about a Chromebook? Leo says that a Chromebook is great because he could use Android apps now. There are Android apps that are just as capable of photo editing as Photoshop. Snapseed, for instance.
Lisa got a Chromebook. Leo says that those are great for what she wants to do and they're much less complex. Now her son wants one for school, but he's looking at a Cloudbook. Leo says not to get that! It's a Windows version of the Chromebook. Sure, it's attractive for Office 365 included for a year, but it's nothing but a cheap Windows machine.
Mark has taken Leo's advice and bought a Chromebook. Leo says that's a wise move. They're much more secure, just as fast, and easier to use. The Chromebook will soon be able to use all the apps in the Android Google Play store, too. That'll allow it to run millions of apps. Most people really don't need Windows. It's too complicated.
