Josh bought one of the last 17" MacBook Pros a few years back and he just got a message that Safari will not be supported by Google on it. Leo says that Google is starting to do that, and Apple isn't going to update it past Mountain Lion. So Leo recommends using Google Chrome. It'll be up to date. Chrome can also import all of his Safari bookmarks, too.
Gillian is having issues with her browser. Leo says the best way to deal with her browser problems is to reset it. She should go into the Menu, then choose Settings. She should type "Reset Settings" in the search box.
The chatroom also says that the browser may be set to delete search data on exit. GroovyPost.com shows how to disable that here.
Barry uses a Chromebook to transfer his images to an external hard drive, but now he can't open it in Windows. Leo says that issue may be that the Chromebook formatted the hard drive in a format that Windows doesn't recognize. It's likely formatted in a Linux format, like EXT 2 or 3. Barry can get an extension to Windows that will be able to translate it. Check out Ext2FsD.
Bob wants to buy a Chromebit for his TV and turn it into a computer. Is it legit? Leo says it is, but he'll need a keyboard and mouse to use it, and after buying that, it's almost as much as buying a dedicated Chromebook. Leo recommends checking out Anker for inexpensive peripherals. They have one for $20 that includes keyboard and mouse. Any Bluetooth keyboard will work, though.
John wants to lock down his internet for his kids. Leo says that the trick is to block it with OpenDNS from the router itself. Change the DNS settings on the router to block it. Then he'll need to lock it down on his system to prevent changes.
Brad is having issues with Google Chrome freezing regularly on Windows 10. He can typically make it freeze by trying to print. Leo says he uses Chrome all the time on Windows 10, and hasn't had any problems, but he hasn't tried printing yet. Brad has already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome. Leo suggests disabling extensions in Chrome, and Brad says he only uses LastPass.
Arelia is having issues with her browser and she thinks it may be due to a plugin she installed. Leo says she's probably right. Plugins like Flash, Shockwave or Java are easily hackable and dangerous if not kept up to date.
Andrea is having trouble using Google Chrome. She even tried to remove and reinstall it. Leo says one possibility is to try and run Chrome in safe mode. If this works, then there may be an extension that's corrupted or broken and therefore breaking her browser. There could also be a malicious extension. Andrea should also clear her cache.
Lucy is having trouble with Chrome and she's tried to remove it, but can't. Leo says it's probably gone into "metro mode." If she sees the hamburger menu of four lines, click on that and she should get out of it. It may also be the sign of an infection that has modified the browser. She should try pressing F11. That will take it out of full screen mode. At that point, she should be able to close it. CTRL-ALT-Delete will work as well.
You may find yourself in a sort of "catch-22" if the only browser on your system won't work. If the browser keeps crashing upon launch, you can't really do anything to fix it, and in order to get an alternative browser you'd need to download it -- using a browser. Here are a few things you can try to fix your current browser, and there's even an alternative way to obtain a different browser without using a browser:
