Scott says that the week before the Super Bowl is actually a bigger week for buying a big screen TV than Black Friday. That's because of the Super Bowl. It's a great time for clearing out the old inventory from last year to get ready for the new models that will come out in the Spring. If you're in the market, Scott has seen a lot of deals and suggests a Samsung SUHD TV. It's high dynamic range. It conforms to the Ultra HD Premium standard, too. Look for the letters "JS" in the model number.
This week marked the huge news that both CBS and HBO have announced stand alone streaming services without the need of a companion cable subscription. CBS's All Access starts now, while HBO's service will come out in 2015. Leo says cord cutters just want to watch Game of Thrones without having to have a cable subscription. But Leo also says he'll believe it when he sees it. If it happens, though, that will be a huge development.
Time Warner Cable has dropped CBS in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas after CBS asked for a 600% increase in their licensing fees. They also took off CBS' other cable networks including Showtime.
CBS responded by blocking Time Warner Internet customers trying to stream CBS content. Leo says we've seen this kind of brinksmanship before as both sides angle. Leo says it's like dinosaur's fighting and there's no winners, especially the consumers.
