Black Friday is coming this week and Scott says there's going to be some amazing deals on Samsung TVs. And you don't have to wait in line to get them, you can shop online. Scott is seeing deals of up to 60% off really good JS UHD models that have high dynamic range. Scott says it's likely to clear out inventory to make room for the 2016 models which will come out in the Spring. Leo says that the deals are unbelievable, especially coming directly from Samsung. Sony is going to have some deals as well, but we haven't seen details yet.
Bill is looking to buy a midrange TV around Black Friday. He's thinking about Hitachi's 1080p 55 inch TV. Scott says that Hitachi got out of the TV business awhile ago, so chances are it will be an old model, and Scott would be hesitant about that.
Black Friday proved to be very profitable for retailers, both online and brick and mortar, with sales up 20%. But what Leo finds more interesting is that nearly one third of all sales this year were from tablets or mobile phones. This really indicates the shift into the mobile world.
Scott saw Big Hero 6 in Atmos, and it was completely immersive. The sound was coming from everywhere. The Hobbit is also coming. And the new Star Wars trailer is out, although it doesn't tell you very much.
It used to just be the day after Thanksgiving, but now Black Friday has expanded. It's not only happening *on* Thanksgiving, but Amazon is having Black Friday sales all week! Leo says that while people are fighting over the marked down deals, a good price on a TV often isn't a great deal. They're usually limited in quantity and often not the best models.
Music Deals, an App for Windows 8, is giving away 50 really good albums for free, with box sets for just $2. You download the 320kbps songs through the app and then you can use them anywhere.
Adam wants to build a PC. Should he get stuff during Black Friday or Cyber Monday? Leo says he doesn't recommend building computers anymore because he can get it cheaper from a company like Dell, and he'll get at least some support for it. It's a great project though. But he'll have to be his own support.
Leo recommends calling NewEgg to find out about their price matching policy, so if he buys something now and it's cheaper on Black Friday, he'll get back the difference.
With all the fights that broke out during Black Friday yesterday, Leo says that it's become more of a 'Jerry Springer' like event than a busy shopping holiday. Is it really worth getting up at 3:30 am and ending up in jail for tazing a fellow human being for 30% off one of last year's models? Leo doesn't think so. Maybe it's just plain safer to shop on Cyber Monday!
Black Friday is a great time to be in the market for an HDTV, but a lot of the TVs aren’t even worth the outrageously low prices. Home Theater Expert Scott Wilkinson found some good deals to look out for:
Scott joins Leo talk pregame for Black Friday. Scott says that Black Friday is early this year with merchants offering Black Friday deals right now! Some will even open on Thanksgving night. Scott says that BFAds.net is one of the best portals for finding the best deals from retailers.
