Microsoft is expanding its store presence, and this week it announced it would be opening a Microsoft Store in Manhattan...just down the street from the Apple Cube store. Leo says it'll be a challenge for them to take on Apple since Apple stores make more profit than Tiffany's. But if it brings competition, Leo's all for it.
John can hear a grinding noise in his MacBook Pro. Leo says chances are it's the fan in the laptop, and maybe a blade got bent. Leo recommends taking the Mac to the Apple Store right away and having a Genius look at it.
Stan's wife has an iPhone 5, which is their first computer. They don't really know how to use it, though. What's the best book to get to read? Leo recommends going to the Apple Store and taking their "one to one" course. They'll sit down and show them how to use the phone. Leo says that's the best way to start. Books can be confusing because technology is moving faster than publishers can keep up. If their eyesight isn't that great, that could be an issue with the iPhone, but there's also accessibility features built in that will help.
Shirley would like to learn how to use her computer. Leo says there's a good book in the "Dummies" series that are geared for Seniors. Computers for Seniors for Dummies is a good place to start. From the chatroom, AbbyandMe.com is a great site and there's a book on it called "Is This Thing On?"
This is in response to a New York Times piece about how Apple Retail doesn’t pay well and employee morale is severely soured. Leo says the Times article is a hit piece, and that Apple pay is standard for retail. There's a long line of people that would take those jobs. Apple has done plenty to warrant criticism, but the employee experience is no different than working for the Gap or Walmart.
