Audacity is a free, open-source audio editing/recording software that can be used on Windows, macOS, Linux, and more. As FossHub's most downloaded open-source app, Audacity has surpassed 100 million downloads and is currently 20 years old. It is distributed under the GNU General Public License. The software allows users to record live audio (and computer playback), convert tapes into digitized recordings, splice sounds together, change the pitch of music tracks, and much more. The Spectrogram view mode allows for easy visualizing of selected frequencies, while the Plot Spectrum window allows for detailed frequency analysis. Plus, there are a range of keyboard shortcuts for further quick workflow and accessibility. Audacity users and import and export with a variety of file formats, extending compatibility. Finally, there's support for LADSPA, LV2, Nyquist, VST, and Audio Unit effect plug-ins.
