Sam joins Leo to talk about the extreme shortage of rental cars right now, as rental agencies sold over half their fleets during the pandemic, and now they can get new cars to replace them.
Sam also wants to highlight a new technology called Vehicle to Everything communications. Cars are going to be able to communicate with each other and other things, through dedicated short-range communications and cellular radio technology without having to use a cellular network. Recent applications include autonomous vehicles that communicate sensor information that was once limited by line of sight. So drivers will be able to get a birds-eye view of the road ahead. This promise to provide greater situational awareness, hopefully making the roads safer. Look for it to roll out industry-wide starting in 2022.
