Scott Wilkinson on Home Theater

Episode 1303 (25:48)

Scott Wilkinson

Scott says when choosing a TV for a computer monitor, it would be best to get 4K or even an OLED TV. In fact, a curved OLED would make for an ideal computer monitor because it's designed for optimal viewing in the center. It really comes down to reading the text. The sharper it is, the easier it would be on the eyes.

Home Theater Questions:

Do all 4K TVs have the Ultra HD Premium certification? Scott says no. Not all are certified, but they may support the standard anyway. Any Samsung TV model number that includes "KS" support Ultra HD Premium, but not certified because Samsung uses their own proprietary design.

Can you replace an old projector lamp with an LED lamp? Scott says you could, if you're fearless with a soldering iron. It's not for the faint of heart though. Just buy a new one.

How can you calibrate a high dynamic range TV? Scott says there's not real standard for that just yet, so it's the Wild West as far as techniques. Get a pro to do it.
