Our current assignment review, "Awake:"
https://www.flickr.com/photos/35129543@N08/16568003929/ - "Sunrise over my Home." Nice shot that shows off the shooter's technical expertise. Extreme dynamic range. Probably shot with a DSLR on manual. You also need a long lens - 340mm lens to get the sun bigger on the screen, otherwise it's a tiny white dott. Nice layering between trees, buildings and hills, and Leo says it's worth being in a gallery. Could you burn out your sensor shooting into the sun? Chris says an extended exposure of up to 20 seconds could, but with this one, at 1/64 of a second, not likely.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/11314491@N05/16584725945/ - "The Tachyons are Awake." Using a spiral light painting technique to move the camera while shooting fireworks yield some very interesting results. Great showing what can happen if you experiment.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/126486179@N06/16395242959/ - "SunBeams." So much "technically wrong" with it, but it conveys some amazing emotion. And remarkable considering it was taken with an iPhone. Clearly some filtering was done, but so what?
Our Next assignment is "asleep." Take a photo of, about or otherwise concerning the concept of "asleep" and then post it to the Tech Guy Group on Flickr. Make sure to tag it with the word "asleep" as well! And if Chris likes it, it could end up on next month's photo contest review segment!
Chris is going to be holding a workshop in San Diego on October 2nd. Check out discoverthetopfloor.com for details.
