App of the week - FairFetch.com. It's an app for iOS and Android to help you find a good cheap fare. Input where, when and the price you want to pay. They'll then find the fare and book you. But once it's booked, there's no refund. If they can't find it, then you can try again at another price point. So it's like Priceline. It's also crowd worked.

Johnny says that if you fly a lot, enough to gain frequent flyer miles, it's best to stick with a single airline that you can build miles with. But if you fly infrequently, then shop around for the best deal when you do. He also says that if you get asked if you want to upgrade to "premium economy," it's a big scam. Johnny also says that airlines are now charging for gate check-in of luggage at $25 a bag or more. They'll also charge you to print your boarding pass.

Travel tip of the week - Bring a snack. You never know if the plane is going to be delayed.

If you book, it'll keep pricing out every day until the price drops and then they will rebook you until you leave. When you have newborns and you're traveling, Johnny recommends bringing your car seat along. You will have to pay for a seat, obviously, but it's worth it safety wise. Always ask if there's an empty row or seat and maybe they won't charge you.

The most expensive day to fly this summer is July 9th, the Sunday after the 4th of July. Sundays are always traditionally more expensive to travel, while Tuesday and Wednesday are the cheapest.

Phones Can Legally be Seized at the Border

When a story came out recently that a JPL Engineer was detained and his work phone seized, it caused Leo to do some research about your legal rights coming back into the country. Turns out that the 4th amendment's protection against unlawful search and seizure has been suspended when you're in "international waters," and that's what an airport technically is. So the Border Patrol and the TSA have the legal right to take your phone, computer and tablets and demand the password to access all your data.
