What Android phone should I get next?

Ron is looking for a new Android phone and he wants a pure Android version. Leo says his primary choice is the Google Nexus 6P. But there will be plenty of new options coming in a few weeks including the Samsung Galaxy S7, the LG G5, and even the Nextbit Robin, which is an inexpensive Android phone. The best bang for the buck is the Nexus because it'll always get the updates, though.

Matthew wants to upgrade either to an LG G3 or a Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Leo says both are great options, but they're a generation behind. The LG G4 and Samsung next gen Galaxy Note will be out by March. And if he goes with the LG G3 or Note 4, they may get stuck in Android Marshmallow due to carriers.

Of those, though, Leo says the Note 4 is a better option because he can get a backup battery. Apple may be announcing a smaller iPhone based on the iPhone 5s size called "iPhone 5se.
It would be as fast as the modern iPhones, though, and would cost less.

What camera do I need for animating drawings?

Craig has a website called GumRoad.com where he features many of his painting and drawings. He wants to animate them. Can he use his camera to do that? Leo says sure, and it will be stop motion to do it. Does he need to buy a special camera? Leo says that a point and shoot will work, but to change out his lenses is beneficial. Leo recommends micro four-thirds. In fact, he can future proof it by shooting in 4K and downsampling to 1080p.

It's time for Amy to upgrade to a new phone and she wants the best camera she can get. Leo says that most have great cameras these days. The Samsung Galaxy S6 is one of the best, as is the Galaxy Note 5, but low light performance is an issue for any mobile phone camera. She should look at the reviews and see what the F stop number is. The lower the number, the better it is in low light.

Why not just bring a camera? He can get a great point and shoot, with zoom for a few hundred dollars. That will be the best for capturing those once in a lifetime memories. The Olympus TG-4 is an excellent option.

What laptop should I get for video editing?

Nan is looking for a laptop to do Photoshop and video editing. Leo says that this will depend on how advanced the video editing is. Many will harness the graphics processor to do most of the heavy lifting, while others will just rely on the computer's own processor to do it. Some laptops don't have a dedicated GPU. Nan will want a higher end laptop, but that also impact battery life.

Which iPad should I buy?

Shell wants to know if she should buy a Wi-Fi only iPad, or the iPad with 4G access. Leo says that Apple will charge an additional $129 for the LTE capability, plus she'll have to pay for an additional monthly data plan. It's far cheaper to get a Wi-Fi only tablet and then use her phone as a hotspot for about $20 a month. Even Leo didn't buy a data plan with his latest iPad Pro. He just went with the Wi-Fi version.
