How can I make use of the unallocated space on my file server?

Hard drives

Episode 1490

Tommy from Natchitoches, LA

Tommy has a file server, a C drive and a D drive, with shared files and folders. It has an unallocated space of 1TB. Leo says that's huge. His C drive has started to get full, and he needs to extend it, but he's limited in how he can extend that within Windows. It would have to be between the C and the D on his partition manager. Leo thinks this may just be a limitation of the Windows Partition Manager, so one thing he could do is go to EaseUS and get their partition manager to see if it can do it.

Larry from Petaluma, CA

Larry recently cloned his hard drive using EaseUS and then used that on his new hard drive. But the SSD he put it on was 250 GB and he can't use the remaining space on it. Can he recover it? Leo says that Acronis can create an image of the drive, keeping the partition. He can use the Windows partition manager to recover the rest of the partition, but if it doesn't work, Larry could try the EaseUS partition manager.

Hard Drive

Episode 1379

Irwin from The Bronx, NY

Irwin's hard drive died, so he replaced it with a 3TB drive. But his computer can't see all of it. He's running Windows 10. Leo says it may be a hardware limitation of his computer that's preventing it from seeing all the hard drive. Leo advises waiting until Tuesday with the Windows 10 Creator's Update. It could fix the problem. He'll also want to be using UEFI to boot to it. If not, there are third party partition managers that can fix it.
