Consumer Reports Downgrades Microsoft's Surface Line

Consumer Reports has been seeing poor long term reliability in the data they are collecting from readers on Microsoft's Surface line of products. It's so bad that they've downgraded their recommendation to "Do Not Buy." Leo says that long term reliability is something that Consumer Reports goes to great expense to analyze and that they're probably on the money with their decision.

Matthew wants to take paper notes with handwriting recognition and he wants to know if the Surface Pro will suffice. Leo says that the Surface Pro is fantastic. It's a tablet with an attachable keyboard (he should get the type version). It comes with a stylus. He can use OneNote to do it as it's tightly integrated.

Should I get an iPad Pro or a Surface Pro?

David is wondering whether he should get the iPad Pro when it comes out, or get the Microsoft Surface Pro. We don't really know anything about the iPad Pro quite yet. Leo's impressed by it, but it comes down to whether or not software will take advantage of it. Since David will be using it for business, office work, and multitasking, Leo recommends sticking with the Microsoft Surface Pro. The Surface Pro 3 is good, and the Surface Pro 4, which should be out soon, will be even better.

Pat is a watercolor artist, and is wondering what computer, printer, and DVD player she should get. Leo suggests getting something that would allow her to draw into the computer, though. For that, Leo would recommend the Microsoft Surface tablet, even though Pat has always had a Mac. He recommends that because of the stylus and the touch screen of it. To do a similar thing with a Mac, Pat would need to spend more to get a Wacom Cintiq, which is very expensive.

Dan wants to get his wife a tablet so she can check her email at work. Leo says that there are some excellent Windows tablets, and many like the Dell Venue Pro. This can run the full version of Windows too, which means it will run regular Windows programs. Dan is a bit sad that Windows doesn't have the same app capability as Android or iOS, though. Will there be ever be a Windows tablet that can run Android? Leo says no.
