Microsoft Edge

Why are my browsers crashing?

Microsoft Edge Browser

Episode 1541

Steve from Redondo Beach, CA

Steve is having trouble with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. After about 2 minutes, both apps crash. Leo says that it could be malware infecting his browsers. But more likely there's a render driver that both browsers use which is causing the crash when he visits certain websites. Leo recommends doing a thorough scan using Windows Defender, and he should also run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool from the command line. To get to that, he can press the Windows Key and type MRT. Leo also suspects that Java is broken.

What happened to my Edge browser?

Microsoft Edge

Episode 1489

Jim from Alturas, CA

The Edge browser on Jim's Windows 10 computer has disappeared! What can he do? Leo says to hit the Windows key and type E-D-G-E. If it pops up, it's still on his computer and he probably accidentally deleted the shortcut. He can just right click on it and select "PIN to task bar" or "PIN to startup". Then he'll have it back. If it's really gone, he can always reinstall it from the Microsoft app store.

Microsoft Launches Windows 10: Should You Install it Right Away?

Episode 1207

On July 29th, Microsoft launched Windows 10 (Threshold) and so far, Leo likes it, a lot. However, Leo says users shouldn't be in a rush to upgrade because it was launched early, and there will be another more polished version coming out in the Fall. So if you're not in a rush to upgrade, don't. Added features include a replacement for Internet Explorer called "Edge," and it's not really ready for prime time just yet, as some plugins like Last Pass don't work. So Microsoft also added Internet Explorer to continue to use. Ugh. Edge though, will be more done in the fall.
