Greg has a DVD/VCR combo, but it only plays in black and white. Leo says that the likely culprit is a bad composite cable (red, white, yellow). So he should replace that. They're pretty cheap. ScooterX in the chatroom says that in the memo of the DVD player, there's a setting that could be affecting it. The TV may be using the same jacks for component as it does for composite. He should check his menu settings. TomsGuide has information on how to do that.
Jason is looking for a good DVD player, but he's worried that his DVD player will be locked to the wrong region. Leo says that region coding was designed to prevent movies from being copied and shared around the world before the movies were released. The trend now is that movies get released worldwide now, so region coding is going to be gradually going away. He'll just have to be sure he doesn't get a used DVD player from another region. He won't want a PAL player in the US, for instance. He'll want NTSC. Or, he should make sure to get a multi region DVD player.
CJ's mother is hard of hearing and would like to get something that will help her listen to the audio on DVD. She's currently using TV Ears and it's not working. Leo says it should and it's likely that she doesn't have it set up properly to get the DVD audio as well. Leo advises contacting their help line toll free to have them walk her through configuring it correctly.
