Jan in Beverly Hills

has a Sony DXL-1000 Camcorder. She’s having trouble using the firewire cable to import video to her Macintosh. The repair center claims OS X fried the Firewire port. It’s true there’s power on the Firewire port, and a short on her system could have fried the camcorder’s connection, but it’s not the operating system.

Arman in Malibu

has a big hard drive. Wants to make an image backup of his hard drive. Get Norton Ghost.

Terry in Alisa Viejo

is in the market for a sub-$1000 notebook. She’s read a bad review of the Compaq and she’s concerned about the AMD Athlon XPM inside. I do prefer the Pentium M but the Athlon is a very good processor and 100% compatible with the Pentium. It’s just not as energy efficient.
