The reason they can’t hear you is the fact uStream can only take one stream. People who try to record skype calls get the same problem.

You’ll want a mixer and you’ll want to mix those audio streams together and put it out as one stream into uStream.

There is software known as “Virtual Cables” which can mix several tracks together… there is an equivelant on Ubuntu.

Hour 4

Q Matt in Texas - Gaming PC upgrade

Price out the individual upgrades which you would like to make and then compare it against buying a ready made machine. Ready made machines give you a guaranteed source for support, and is most likely less expensive.

Be sure not to get too fast of a video card for your other specs, so the video card is not waiting on the CPU

Q Alice in California - Bulk Mail

Spam is automatically sorted into the folder.

You could use an anti-spam solution to sort the mail such as Only My Email.

Also, check out Leo’s Stop Spam tips for more ideas.

Q David in Los Angeles - Home Theater Receivers

Either Sony or Denon would be a good choice. Depending on your budget, generally the more money you spend on the receivers and speakers the better CD audio will sound.

Video playback also differs when upscaling to HD resolutions.

Blu-ray is ideal for a TV above 50″, a PS3 makes a great Blu-ray player, and about the same price as a standalone player.

Q Randy in Redwood City - Blu-ray Copying

To copy retail Blu-ray discs, you would have to break the copy protection first. Slysoft’s AnyDVD HD Software will rip the disc, and you may be able to use Nero 8 with the Blu-Ray plugin to burn the rip.

Blu-ray Software also sells several programs which claim they can do this.

Q Alex in Woodland Hills - MacBook Upgrades

Upgrade to 4GB of RAM for about $100, from a site such as OWC

Also, you may want to look at a FireWire external hard drive to hold video files

Q Chris in Lakewood - Sharing a printer from a PC to Mac

802.11 N will work with the wireless card in the MacBook Pro, and will work with 802.11B and G equipment. A network printer would probably be the best bet to share a printer between the two.

Also, check out the Missing Manual Series from David Pouge to learn more about the Mac.

Only My Email is a great service. They do require your password as they need to take your email through their systems. That way it gets filtered out before it gets to your inbox. You do pay a monthly fee for it.

Q Mark in Washington - Streaming Audio Problems

Q Linda in California - Removing a virus

You should reinstall the operating system, and make sure you patch all the updates, as viruses like to hide.

You shouldn’t assume it’s a virus or trojan that’s making your keyboard have problems. It sounds like there are keys stuck. There’s a physical problem with your keyboard.

You need to take it back in as it’s not something you can fix. If it’s a desktop computer, then you can buy a new keyboard.

It’s probably your hosting company. Basically you have shared hosting. That means that lots of people are sharing the same server as your website. Wordpress itself is pretty snappy.

You might want to look at a VPS (Virtual Private Server). That basically means they will dedicate a certain amount of the servers resources to your website, and it’ll be just as though you were on your own machine.

Q David in Michigan - Online Banking

WiFi can be dangerous, but so long as your doing your banking with a reputable bank, and they use an SSL Page that’s secured, it’s completely safe as it’s encrypted.

The stuff that is not encrypted can however be seen by anyone in the area. One area of trouble are email passwords. Most email passwords are sent in the clear.

You need an SSL email provider (eg. Google Mail). You’ll want to look for the lock on your browser, and the page is ‘https://’ not ‘http://’.

Q Matt in Canada - Promoting a podcast

If your good, word will get out. It’s not finding the listeners, it’s finding the community. You should have a website, a forum, you should allow commenting.

You might want to go to places where people who would be interested in the podcast, hang out. Don’t spam them, get in the discussion.

It seems that the game is slowing you down. Whats happening is the computer is asking the mouse and keyboard what their doing. It does that several times a second. If the computer doesn’t ask the mouse and keyboard enough times a second, you get lag.

Leo is stumped. You should ask on the forums. There may be compatibility issues between some drivers.

Mozy does online backup just like Carbonite, but they also have a client for Macs. Both Carbonite and Mozy do encrypt your data, however a lot of online backup companies do not.

If they do not, then they have open access to your data. There should be specialised services that are compliant for the medical industry.

Q Mouse and Keyboard stop responding

It sounds like the computer is freezing. A computer can freeze for many reasons. It could be a serious software issue, it could be overheating. It can be hard to diagnose the problem.

Leo does think it’s overheating. You might want to try reinstalling the operating system and see if the problem persists. Also boot up in Safe Mode and see if it still happens.

If it doesn’t happen in Safe Mode, try updating all the drivers and disabling some programs.
