  • The 17-year old kid who did it over his summer break is absolutely amazing
  • There are currently 2 software techniques
  • iPhoneSIMfree is the method Ryan has already tried
    • It works
  • Apple doesn’t want it unlocked because they get a cut of the monthly charges
  • Both software methods are not available online yet
  • The trick to legally provide an unlocking software is to not infringe on other properties
  • Nothing stopping these techniques from spilling to the open source community

  • Lenovo’s Thinkpads certainly have docking stations

Q Backing up applications

  • Use an imaging program to back up the entire hard drive
  • Leo doesn’t think you can effectively back up applications on Windows without backing up the entire OS

Q John - Crashing his web server

  • Using FrontPage to create a 28gb website!
  • More modern way is to use a content management system
  • An example of a photo-based CMS is Coppermine
  • Drupal is good at managing a high amount of data
  • You won’t be managing website from your desktop, but it’ll be all online

  • Some older WiFi cards may not be able to use WPA
  • WPA is much better than WEP
    • But WEP is better than nothing
