Steve Jobs wrote an essay on his Thoughs on Music about his stance on DRM. This was probably written because the EU is piling on anti-DRM pressures. Jobs stated that the only reason copy protection is on the iTunes Store’s music is because the big record labels only allowed Apple to sell the music with copy protection.
Shortly afterward, it was leaked that EMI is considering DRM-free music.
The world’s first quantum computer will be demoed on Tuesday.
A New York senator wants to ban iPods and other portable devices on the streets of New York.
Q Ivan from West Covina - Directory for only blogs
The best directory would probably be Technorati. It is design to search through blog posts, and was also one of the first sites to take advantage of tagging. A Google-style search for blogs would be at Google Blog Search.
Q Phil from Anaheim - Removing Norton Internet Security completely
As long as you haven’t run it yet, you should be able to easily remove it by uninstalling it from the control panel. You don’t want to be running 2 antivirus programs simultaneously.
Q Mark - Recovering photographs on a hard drive
When you erase a file in Windows, you don’t really erase it, but rather mark the area on the hard drive for reuse. There are numerous unerase programs on the Internet. Take a look at Restoration.
Q Jeff - Reverting back to IE6
In the IE7 folder, there should be a file called spuninst.exe that will remove it. You can read the Microsoft technote regarding the topic.
Q Craig from Illinois - Java problem with Firefox
What you probably want to do is go to java.com and install the new version. Microsoft used to offer Java built into Windows, but Sun sued them and they stopped. Your Java version is most probably out of date.
Q Allison from Ohio - MacBook & Garageband
Leo doesn’t think Garageband is the best for podcasting, but is definitely the easiest to use. Eventually, you will outgrow it. It’s not needed to get a Mac just for Garageband. Yes, you need a computer, but its not necessary.
Q Brian from Alta Loma - Converting videos for the iPod
On Windows, Leo recommends Videora iPod Converter.
Q Jonathan from Ohio - DirecTV DVR

He’s an old PrimeStar customer and wanted to know if he can get a DVR that doesn’t require a separate DirecTV box. Get a TiVo. It will use an IR blaster which is a device that will drape over the IR sensor on the satellite box. It’s not a perfect system, but it works.
Q Max from Costa Mesa - One&One website builder
The One&One website builder (from One&One hosting) is designed very simply. It probably doesn’t have the capability to load video or audio. Take a look at Vox and Wordpress.
Q Rebecca from South Pasadena - Vonage phone adapter not connecting to the Internet
I would not recommend using Vonage as the main phone line. Just send it back for now.
Q Some devices coming up as unknown
It is a software issue. The devices work, the cables work. The driver for the device is the usb mass storage class driver. Just delete all the devices in the device manager and and plug them in one by one.
Q Tom - Windows Vista in an Windows XP world
There are some compatibility issues. Take a look at the Microsoft Vista Upgrade Advisor. You’ll have to get a new antivirus, some media players don’t work, and some audio editing programs don’t work.
Q Gary from New York - HTML editors/Online backup
The gold standard is Dreamweaver. There is a good free editor called Nvu. The template driven Contribute is a great way to get started off quickly. Aptana will help you develop AJAX apps.
Q Barbara from La Mesa - Printer printing in reverse only after updating to OS 10.4.8
All-in-one printers are notorious for having problems with OSX. Try creating an extra account to see if it’s isolated to the account. Go into the paper handling option and reset what the page order prints out as.
