There is a site called Linux on Laptops which has a directory of laptops with recommendations for a distribution and what problems you may encounter. There is trouble always when you want to dual boot. Before setting that up, defragment the Windows partition. A good thing to do would be to wipe the drive, install Windows, and then install Linux.

Q Dane from San Diego - Playing WMV-HD on an LCD TV
He wants to play a WMV-HD file on his TV. All you need is an interface from your computer to your screen. This is provided that your screen is 1080p. Microsoft has a site with all the movies available in WMV-HD.
Q David - Playing back DVDs on a computer
You need the software. Go to Cyberlink. They make a program called PowerDVD.
Q Steven from Riverside - Laptop shutting down on its own
It sounds like your ntloader problem was a harbinger of something worse. Basically it’s saying, “I can’t start”. You’ve got a laptop in sore condition.
Q Finding the origin of a file
Often if you look at it with a hex editor, you can see something about the authorship. Leo’s not convinced that that there’s any way to find that out. It’s very hard to tell who messed up your PC.
Q Randy from Fontana - Cell phone service
Most of these companies offer low cost lifeline services around $20.

Q Lloyd - Daisy-chaining several sponsors
He bought nearly all of our sponsors’ products. However, he has managed to daisy-chain everything together. You are going to have some Internet speed loss. On the other hand, you’re incredibly secure from the Internet.
Q Kate - Creating a safe website
Her sons want to create a website for their team mates. They should make a free account on wordpress.com. It basically is going to be a blog. They can make it a members only blog.
Q Mike - Images overlapping each other in a window OSX
It is something wrong with your hardware. There seems to be a problem with the card itself.
Q Randy from Downey - Can’t copy files in Documents and Settings
You need to take ownership of the file. Microsoft has a tutorial located here.

Q Computer rebooting at BIOS
Leo would first go into BIOS setup and update the ESCD in order to notify it of a new hardware setup. It’s not a Windows problem. It may also be a time to replace the battery on the motherboard.
Q Teresa from Glendale - Transferring video from an analog camcorder to the computer
You can get an external box like the Moviebox, or you can get an internal TV tuner like Hauppage. Another choice would be to get a DV camera with something called analog passthrough.
Q Taylor from Santana - HDTV recommendation

There is no simple recommendation. If you want a larger display, look at an LCD or something of the like. Look at the Sony Bravia or the lcos JVC HDILA.
If you would like to post the comments, please keep it relevant to the show. Moreover, no FLAMING: it’s been a big problem lately and by the same few people. Thank you for maintaining civility =)

So today is Defend Apple and Steve Jobs day? Guess that must have been the “directive” send down to Leo from Cupertino for todays KFI Apple-Infomercial show.
Well, despite the Laporte “Spin”, this ain’t the first time Stevie Gods and the Enron of Silicone Valley - Apple - has been playing ILLEGAL GAMES with Stock Options to Benefit dirt bag Stevie Gods. What proof, say no more and of course you WON’T hear or see this from the Apple Pimp. -

As far as the parental controls go, my mom uses Bsafe Online ( http://www.bsafehome.com/ ) for my brother, and it took me using Linux and HijackThis to disable it, and even then you would notice it was disabled because it emails you.

Crossloop is simple secure screen sharing.
Q Mark from Tuston - Stopping Office 2003 from bothering about SP3
You can use regedit to search for “run once”. Microsoft Sysinternals has a program called Autoruns that should help you settle this.

He wants to use Hamachi to connect his college and home networks. However, his school apparently blocked NATriversal. Hamachi sets up what looks like a LAN over the Internet, and it has NATriversal built in. Your school may have blocked some ports, but it can’t block the feature itself. It is possible that your school may be trying to block Hamachi itself. Leo uses a similar commercial method called HotSpotVPN. There is also the free OpenVPN.

Both of the upcoming operating systems: Windows Vista and OSX Leopard, have vastly improved parental controls. You can also get a 30-day trial of Cyber Patrol to use until Windows Vista is released. A previous advertiser, the iBoss is a hardware device that will act as a parental control device.
