Q Rob - Error with program
There must be another program on the machine that is modifying the DLL files. You need to find out what file is being tampered. The best way to do this is compare what’s starting up on the machine that works vs. the one that doesn’t. It could easily be that one machine has spyware. Take a look at AutoRuns.
Q Kyle from Santa Clarita - PS3
He spent Wednesday and Thursday in the parking lot. At about 9:30 he got into line. However, he bought it to play it. In the end though, he thinks it’s not that great. The crowd in line, he says, was a rather shady crowd. He owns Call of Duty 3, Resistance: Fall of Man, and the worst game ever, Mobile Suit Gundam. Call of Duty 3 has the worst experience; it has no multiplayer. The online store is terrible, it took an hour to update it. Overall, there’s nothing exciting about it. Xbox Live beats the pants off the Playstation 3. Also, the rumble is gone from the controller so it feels like a child’s toy. Just go out and buy an Xbox 360. In fact, he is in the parking lot right now waiting for the Wii to replace his PS3!
Q John from Pennsylvania - Switching to Linux
He wants to know if it is worth it to dual-boot Linux and Windows. That’s a good idea if you think there will be a few programs that will only work on Windows. An advantage of installing Linux on your entire hard drive is much easier because you don’t have to worry about partitioning. Take a look at Ubuntu.

Q Joe from Torrence - 24″ iMac vs. Mac Pro
I went through this debate myself. The iMac 24″ is very fast, but the Mac Pro is meant for hard core professionals looking for an incredibly powerful workstation. The Pro is all about upgradeability. It has 4–5 open drive bays. Here’s the kicker, you have a choice for a monitor. Also, the next-generation quad-core Intel chips are socket-compatible with the Mac Pro. Economically speaking, if you got the iMac and got another within a couple of years, you’ve saved money compared to the Mac Pro. On the iMac, I would upgrade to at least 2gb of RAM. Overall, it is an issue of upgradeability.
Q Al from Lancaster - Looking for a KVM switch
Iogear makes the best KVMs in my opinion. Also, you need a KVM with DVI.
Q Peter - Clearing the 24″ iMac vs. Mac Pro
He’s recommending the 24″ iMac because it has a SATA 7200rpm drive and he can also run a second monitor off of it. Three gigs of RAM runs like a charm.
Q Nick from New Jersey - Port 80 blocked by Verizon FiOS
Verizon does not want you running a server. It is probably your router that is blocking the router. You may want to DMZ the server.
Q Bob from San Diego - Can’t update iPod in iTunes
You have to add music to your iTunes library. If you haven’t put anything else in your iTunes library, just delete it and start over. Go to the File menu and click “add songs.” Before that, go to the preferences and edit the library manipulation options. Once everything is in the library, it will automatically copy the contents to the iPod.
Q Tom from Huntington Beach - Looking for a phone with similar functionality as the Palm TX Series
The phone I’m using right now is the T-Mobile Dash. To me, this is the state-of-the-art of smartphones. It’s fast, got a lot of memory; I think you would like it a lot. Also, Verizon’s Blackberry 8703e is very nice.

Q Cliff - Logitech Harmony remotes/Memory card readers
I like the Harmony because they are computer-enabled. The biggest problem with a universal remote is that you have to train it. On your computer, you will explain to the controller what you have and then assign functions to a button.
The reader is not working because it is not getting sufficient power.
Q Gary from San Dimas - Wireless routers
The idea of wireless distribution service is to be able to extend a wireless network across an area with one SSID.
Q Cannot boot computer
It sounds like the hard drive is failing. There is not a whole lot you can do. If you had something like SpinRite, you may have been able to get to recover the data. The easiest thing to do would be able to bring it to the store. If it is a soft error, it will be easy to fix, but if it is a hardware error, it will cost much more.
Q Edwin from Northridge - To Zune or not to Zune
If you have purchased music from iTunes, you cannot play it back on the Zune. The Zune has a nice screen, nice feel, and a decent WiFi feature. However, I predict that the Zune will be one of Microsoft’s largest flops. The Zune supports h.264, MPEG-4, and WMV video.
Q Gary from Hacienda Heights - Installing Linux on another drive
That will work on anything but an external drive. However, you will need a boot manager. Try GAG, The Graphical Boot Manager.

Not all change is for the better.
Up in Boston there were 500 people in line outside the Copley Place Mall, The Sony Style Store Only had 20 Units, but they still handed out around 150 Random Number Tickers. Things got ugly when they opened the Doors, and Police needed to be Called in. The Mayor of the City Sent a Bill to Sony, ordering them to pay for all of the Officers that had to show up! Save your self the hassle, and Buy a 360!
The Intel “Quad Core” is NOT a real quad core by the very deffinition that is acceptable to engineers in the IEEE. It’s a phony Quad Core and still based on Intel’s persistant poor choice to stict with their ancient X86 architecture (whether it’s a smaller component size or not!)
Read for yourself so you don’t get sold a bill of goods by Leo and Intel -
“AMD has stressed that its quad-core design will be a “true quad-core,” meaning it will contain four separate cores on a die.
Yesterday, during its own conference call, Intel re-iterated its plans to release a quad-core processor by the end of the year. Intel’s version is expected to contain two dual-core processors packaged on a die.
Intel also plans release a two dual-core Core 2 Duo processors packaged together to create a similar product for the desktop market. That product is expected to be announced in Intel’s Core 2 Duo kick-off on July 27.
In the meantime, AMD has plans to release a chip for the enthusiast market called the 4×4, which links two dual-core processors using AMD’s fast hypertransport link to get quad-core like performance. AMD has said that product will ship by the holidays.”

on the new IE7 browser, is there a way to get the url slot (address bar) below the file edit view ect, ect, bar?
can’t copy macbreak video podcasts to my ipod since i updated to 7.0. will 7.2 fix this? wanna watch apple script sal!
I just LOVE when an actual knowledgeable listener catches Leo Laporte is a blatant lie. When are you listeners going to realize that Leo is full of it and more than not his Apple pimping is all BS. Better get your script of Appleinformercial stuff proof read before more of us catch you.
The TRUTH is 99% of computer users DON’T NEED a Dual Core let alone a “phony quad core” since 99.5% of software CAN’T USE IT! Wake up Apple Sheeple!
In Internet terminology, a troll is a person who enters an established community such as an online discussion forum and intentionally tries to cause disruption, most often in the form of posting inflammatory, off-topic, or otherwise inappropriate messages
RE: Multiple remote issue with home theater. I agree & wife sez same thing, “I can’t watch TV!” I’ve tried to make it simpler with 2 tactics: 1) only “I” run movies and leave the receiver out of loop for everyday TV watching, plus with a combo DirecTV-TiVo box she “may” only use the TiVo remote with all the basic functions; 2) I have standardized on Panasonic TV & peripherals since I’m not an audiophile and their remotes are mostly interchangeable. The guys at Panasonic booth at CES 3yrs ago said the 34″ is the best tube they’ve ever built. I have an external Panasonic HDTV box and only watch the free broadcast channels, with San Diego’s KPBS having lots of original content. DirecTV’s digital signal looks almost as good as 720p. Final comment: I’ll NEVER buy an HD DVD player until there’s a single or interop standard!!
I’ll agree with that. Most computer users don’t need a dual core system. Most XP users won’t need Vista, either. But it’s nice to have the choice.
Punish Microsoft!! Punish Microsoft!!
Whoa! Is that Leo Laporte or John Kerry??
I seriously DOUBT that Leo has any “Friends” at Microsoft with the constant MS and Windows Bashing Leo does. I’ll be willing to bet that there are many dart boards around MS with Leo Laporte pictures on them at the center.
Leo, you’re a typical Northern California Liberal. Big Bully, no wonder you’re also a Mac Zealot.
I did a review Of Vista Ultimate this Last week and Found That aero Glass Wont Work On My Comp The New IE7 might Be safe but i think I will Stay With Maxthon as a Web Browser also i think Vista looks to Much Like XP , They should Have Changed It a Lot More ,, Within an Hour I could not tell weather I was Running XP Or Vista the Way I Configured the Settings so i Copyed all The .jpg’s from vistas system files and moved them over to My XP Webshot’s Desktop Picture files now i Have no Difference , My XP is still faster than Vista and My Programs all work on XP they wont work on Vista all (130) so i would have to find all new Programs for the Vista — So i Give it a THUMBS DOWN I am going to stay With XP Why Buy all new software when you Dont Need IT.
I spent the Last 4 Years Perfecting an Install Of XP with 130 different Programs that dont Conflict and Mastering the System I am 2 Routers deep behind my adsl modem 1.5 meg Down and .35 Up WHY CHANGE NOW …..I Might wait another 4 Years then there might Be 130 Free Programs That Will Work On VISTA at this time there is only a FEW
What most People Don’t Realise is that They are To Blame For the Operating systems sending out the Viruses And the Corrupted Files IT’s not Microsoft , Thier service Packs and Patches are to Fix all the screwup’s all the Dumb Idiots create and Most People Should Not even OWN a Computer ---- And so what if Leo does Ocationaly Bash Microsoft , I Have heard him Bash Apple Too. It’s His Show He can say any thing He Wants so leave him Alone ,, --- By the way does any one Know how to get a Game File OFF of a 5.25 floppy on a Apple LC , LCII or LCIII comp dated 1993 to a DVD
Waldo, one HUGE difference between Home and Pro for those who use it; Remote Desktop. Its totally revolutionized how I think about interacting with a computer…strike that, computerS, from one or more (in my case 3) locations. One might say I’ve been using multiple core processing for years now. Media servers, video and audio processing, TIVO-type media recording, regular NAS type stuff, etc. etc. This kind of control over a distributed processing network is only possible, or at least made ever so easy and productive through the use of Remote Desktop.
So to you the difference in the 2 OSs is minor but to me its major. I’m with you on the change to VISTA though. I need a generational change in hardware AND software (increased productivity-wise) for me to ever have anyting more than passing interest. What I have now works about 97.469% as good as I need it to.
Poor Leo, I think all he ever hears about is all the problems people have and it gives him a distorted viewpoint to some extent. Most people screw thier own stuff up most of the time cuz this stuff is still very inter-dependent, interactive and complicated, no matter how “sqares and circles” the GUI is. I know cuz I do it all the time myself, but I always recognize what I did and figure out what tiny little protocol I violated in some dusty nested loop of programming…and sometimes the answers are really wild, at least for me. Yakkity Yak!
Thank you ylonestar and Speculative --- I have all 3 of My computers on the same location and if i need a file on a diferent computer i use several (4) 2–40′s 1–30 ,1–250 , Hard drives with ide adapters to use on USB and access them that way , or Burn CD’s And DVD’s to move the files and for backups I dont use cases on the external drives Because i can COOL them Better .when i am not using the drives they are DISCONECTED so nothing or no one But I can Access them ,, So the hackers can Kiss My “-___-“ besides all My Finantual or Business Records are stored and Used on a computer that is NEVER conected to a Network It’s “Virus and Hacker Proof” My Main Computer Has 2 80 gig Hard Drives a 1 DVD-CD Burner , 1 CD Burner , 2 Power Supplys 1 is 550 Watt the other is 350 watt (to run the fans and external Drives) , 9 fans total moving air , Audio Video Capture Card (so i can watch Sat TV or convert VHS tapes Or live Video Direct to DVD), 1 UV Light ,512 meg 2700 Ram , Pentium 4 2.66 GHz Processor, The Whole System is Conected into My Stereo Sound System Has every thing To Rock Your World. But i think i will Upgrade My Motherboard one of these days to fix a USB Problem that has been ongoing for some time Besides it is 4 years old and a dual prcessor Running at 3.02 with HT Sounds good and some 3200 memory wouldnt be to shaby ( I dont care about Heat) -----LaterZ -----
