Q Martha from Placentia - Need to buy a new computer
Her friends are probably right, you should go with dual core. It gives you a little bit of future-proofing. However, I don’t think you need that much power. The first place I would look for would be Dell
Q Marlene from Riverside - Lost pictures in Kodak Easyshare
Easyshare keeps a cache of the images. It’s showing you the cached image, but it can’t find the original image. Use the Windows search to look for the pictures. Also, check online from the Easyshare service for the pictures
Q Cookie from Valencia - Computer freezes when creating new folder/Recommendations for PocketPC’s
Programs can add items to the context menu. If the program is buggy, the program will crash when you right click. You can uninstall that program. If the problem is not fixed, it may be another problem like spyware.
I like both the iPaq and Axim. However, the bigger differences may be the inclusion of WiFi, Bluetooth, or amount of card slots.
Q Richard from Monrovia - Network storage drives
They’re good only if you need it; such as mass-multimedia.

Q Melissa from Corona del Mar - Multiple iPods on One Computer
Set the iPods to sync from different folders/playlists.
Q Lisa from Irvine - Defragmenting OSX-based external hard drives
Good news you don’t have to defragment drives with the OSX file system! However, you may want to try out Micromat Techtool Pro.
Q Dawn from Bellflower - Windows saying XP is not genuine
Check with Microsoft if you still have the original disc with a hologram. There is no reason it should say that.
Q Dan from Bellflower - PC boots into setup mode/Suggestion for a new PC
The battery is going out
I recommend buying an iMac. If you would like to learn about OSX, I recommend reading Mac OS X: The Missing Manual and my own guide to Mac OS X Tiger
Q Comment about WPA being cracked
No, it has not. Your security is rated by how random your password is.
Q What do you think about the MacBook?
Black was the color to get. It’s been working great. Yes, it costs $150 more just for a black paint job, and there have been concerns that the black MacBook paint chips off. Also, it does get hot. The glossy screen looks fantastic! Finally, the keyboard looks weird, but is very good.

Where are the show notes and comments for Saturday, May 27, 2006?
Leo answers: The 5/27–28 shows were pre-recorded. I will put up show notes as soon as I can. Sorry for the delay!
I don’t understand people who bash Microsoft the spend $150 so their computers will look like a Dell.:-)
Show notes for Saturday the 27th are found on May 20 show notes.

Circuit City has a Presario for $439. Add a 17″ monitor and a photo printer and it’s only $399.97 after rebates.
Office Depot has a HP, 15″ LCD, printer etc for $199. after rebates!!!!! no brainer?
can ne one give me the radio stream link
Unfortunately I haven’t heard the end of the call from the guy trying to connect hist Dell with his new Mac.
But if you don’t know your Windows logins or you forgot your password, try: ntpasswd (http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/). It creates a boot disk with a mini linux. After booting you see all the logins on the machine and can delete the passwords. I tried it out. It worked fine.
On the Sunday(5/28/6) radio show a lady caller mentioned that her “geeky” friends recommended she get a new computer with a dual core processor. You went on to tell her about all kinds of Intel processors, but forgot about mentioning the very excellent AMD x2 cores available.
For the guy wanting to play programs recorded on a DirecTV TiVo, there is a gadget called the ACARD AEC-4420P USB Link that consists of and IDE to USB 2.0 interface that connects between the hard drive and controller inside the device and lets you access it externally. I’ve seen them on the net for $17.50 with file transfer software. I don’t know if anyone has used one in a TiVo but there is an article on using one in a Pace Twin in the UK, which is an off the air TV receiver that saves programs on the hard drive similar to a TiVo. The modification is called the Twin Reaper and includes info on connecting an ethernet interface to the unit also.

Remove items from the right-click (context) menu with TweakUI (free Microsoft Power Toy).
TweakUI for Windows XP:
My Computer | Templates
TweakUI for Windows 98:
New | uncheck box or use the [Remove] Button
to permanently get rid of an item.
Windows Genuine Advantage:
Just FYI — I get the error that a Windows installation is not genuine when I try to install Windows Defender and it does not have the most recent updates. I download the latest updates and then it’s fine.
We don’t care how much it costs. I guess that’s a straight thing. We, on the other hand, will gladly pay $150 over list just to make Steve happy.

Two Words Mac Hater: Buffer Overflow.
One of the worst flaws in Windows! Anyone can find stories about how bad Dell, Gateway and HP computers are but we don’t need to put the whole store in the Comment area just give a link. Besides these stories say that some people are having these issues, it doesn’t say that a certain percentage out of the millions that they sell have these issues.
