Nike has announced a partnership with Apple to make iPod shoes.
Nintendo has announced that their next generation gaming console, the Wii, will not be more than $250 in the US.
Microsoft has announced that they will begin shipping the beta 2 of Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007
Hackers can attack your computer using Microsoft Word by simply opening an infected word file. Microsoft has several workarounds, but has not released a patch yet.
Q Carl from British Columbia - Net Neutrality
Shaw in Canada charges extra if you were to decide to use a VOiP service other than their own. This is not legal yet in America, and this is exactly what Net Neutrality wishes to halt. The ISP’s wish to charge companies such as Vonage and Google to use the Internet to deliver to customers as well.
Q John from Pasadena - Putting photos in a slideshow on a DVD/CD
The question is more, “Do I make a data disc or a video disc?” Data discs hold more, but can only be played on computers whereas video discs can be played on virtually anything that can play a DVD/VCD. I recommend burning a DVD. You are basically making a movie of your pictures, which reduces the resolution.
Q John from Michigan - Looking for a GPS unit for a Palm TX
If you want to use the Palm with a GPS unit, you may want to use a car charger if it will be in use for more than a few hours. My two choices are the Copilot or TomTom
Q Brian from Ventura - Formatting CD-RW
The only time you have to format a disc is when you wish to use the disc as a drive where you can just drag files to it. Windows XP does pseudo-writing to the disc. It does not burn the disc until you tell it to. When it burns the disc, it does not burn via packet writing and does not require formatting. The key is to commit Windows XP to burning the disc. Quickbooks automatically copies a backup to your hard drive everytime you exit the program. I recommend copying your My Documents folder to a CD once a week.
Q Jim from Escandido - Cannot find address book on hard drive/Storing pictures in a time capsule
You’re looking for a .wab file that is created by Outlook Express. It, unfortunately, was probably stored in the applications folder.
If you want to put pictures in a time capsule, make prints. Technology changes at an incredibly rapid pace. In fifty years, who knows if CD or DVD players will be around?
Q Jeff from Michigan - Vidcasting/Podcasting solutions
I recommend checking out Rocketboom for a video model. I like flash streaming because it is universal, although the quality is lower. For your audience of a church, flash is a better choice. You can sacrifice quality for being universal.
Q Damon from Ventura - Converting multi-page PDF’s to multi-page TIF’s
I found something called Freebird
Q Henry from Riverside - Resetting Airport Express
Use the Airport Configuration Utility to reconfigure the Airport Express.
Q Cherise from the 405 - Using one keyboard/mouse/monitor on Mac Mini/G4 Cube
Get a KVM switch which allows you to do that. I recommend Iogear. It’s a little tricky because you are using a DVI monitor. Be sure to get the DVI version. Also, you need an AVC to DVI converter for the G4 cube. For the bluetooth keyboard/mouse, I think you are out of luck. However, you may be able to use a program called Synergy; which is like a virtual KVM.
Q Blake from Massachusetts - Trouble with a Logitech USB microphone
You have to tell Logic Express where the audio source is. You may want to play around with the Audio MIDI Setup
Q Brian from Manhattan Beach - Passwords in Windows 98
The password is the standard login password. If you have a blank password, it won’t ask you for it. First, you go to the Network Control Panel, select Windows login, then create a new user with a blank password. Here’s an article that will guide you through it.
Q Carl from North Carolina - A/B switches for USB
Belkin makes USB switches.
