Getting back into the Tech World.
I am currently employed at a University and work in Residence Life (Dorms) as a hall director. I am looking to move back into the tech world in my next position. However, I am wondering what is better to assist in my job search a Masters of Business in Information Technology or certifications A+, Novell, Microsoft, etc. I am currently gaining experience volunteering and working for non-profits.
I currently have a Bachelors of Business in Info Mgmt. and Masters of Education.

Hey does anyone know if today’s (2/11) show is going to be live, or is it another prerecorded bunch of calls? I see that Leo’s Geek Cruise concludes today — wonder if he plans on being on, or does he have to unpack his bags first.. ;^)
Hey Leo.. What happen to the days of talking about basic tech news at the beginning of the show?
By the way.. When are you visiting your friends again at Computer America?

Even after I enter the wiki word it’s still not letting me in. What the crud???
Today show is PRERECORED!!
Bummer about prerecorded show, but not hard to listen to.
If you have a correct IP addresss on the 192.168.1.x on your XP machine but can’t ping the firewall at 192.168.1.1 then it most probably is that the winsock LSP (layered service providers) is broken..
see http://windowsxp.mvps.org/winsock.htm
and http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811259
at command prompt:
netdiag /test:winsock /v
to repair winsock (sp2 only):
netsh winsock reset
or google for ‘xp lspfix’ and use the lspfix tool to remove the component that is broken.

Today show is PRERECORED!!
But why would the wiki word not work? It’s relevant to the comming week. (And I apologize if I violated the rules by saying that. =- )
BTW the wiki word of the week (the one Leo is announcing) does not work..!!!
Wiki word not working so her goes.
1. Network problem can be due to the router firmware. I had that problem with Linksys WRT54GX2. Could not ping from the wireless side to wired and vice versa. The wireless machines would not show up in Network Neighborhood. New firmware fixed it.
2. Nero. I was unable to copy an unprotected DVD with Nero. Nero tech support blamed it on my burner firmware. No updates were avaiable. Uninstalled Nero and replaced it with Roxio. DVD copied just fine.
After hearing about the tech support problem with the Dell Computer, I was encouraged in a policy that I have adopted: Don’t buy from companies with tech support based in a country I don’t live in. That’s one reason I buy Apple, but not the only reason.
Leo— Best way to contact Dell and the powers that be is to fax a letter to Michael at (800) 317–3355. Address the letter/fax to Mr. Dell.

Well my-my, looky-looky! All the well founded criticizm of Apple, Macs and OS X flaws have been CENSORED off the Phoney Lib Leo Laporte Comments log! SO MUCH for Leo’s ANNOUNCED offer to post anything even if you disagree! Typical liberal and Apple Pimp.
I find those less intellectually less fortunate and dishonest intentionally misinterpret well-reasoned criticism for the whiny slop presented as “criticism”. Repeating the same boring thing over and over without ever adding any original ideas is indeed boring and should be deleted. It serves no purpose, it’s like crank phone calls by children, eventually you just ignore it.

HAPPY EVALENTIN
I find obnoxious people who think they are superior to others, to be people who feel very inadequate when compared to their peers.
Those who find themselves critisizing the posters and not the content, generally Hero Worship the person or are FanBoys of the company that is taking the critical comments.
IT’S A COMPUTER! IT’S A TOOL, NOT A LIFE!

Last week, Leo mentioned a web site to check for updated versions of programs installed on your computer. I was driving at the time, and couldn’t write down the web page.
Does anyone remember this?

A couple of years ago, the only reason I paid for Expanded Cable was to get Tech TV and to see Screensavers with Leo. Then they went with the younger versions and I just plain quit watching. Imagine my suprise when I found you again, but now on the radio instead! I really like the Podcasts. Your station just doesn’t quite get all the way up to Oregon… ;-) The .mp3 podcasts make the drive to and from work some excellent learning/staying current time. THANKS LEO. You ROCK. I am glad I found you again!

Where are the show notes. I can not find them I see the times, but not the content!

For the caller that said that something was on his mac, I would have checked the name of the virus that Norton had detected on there. Then would have done a little research on what it is. Despite what a program tells me, I do check it out instead of just dismissing it.

@ the caller who couldn’t ping her hardwired xp machine, I had a very similar problem, and the solution turned out to be enabling net-bios over tcp/ip. until I did that, one of my machines wouln’t see (and couldn’t be seen by) the network. The instant I enabled net-bios over tcp/ip it worked

I had a similar horror story with Dell tech support dealing with a failed hard drive. It took me an hour and a half to convince the lady that the hard drive had failed. Not only did she treat me like I had zero computer knowledge and even after I assured her I knew what I was talking about it still took almost 2 hours to finally convince them to send me a new Hard Drive. I refuse to deal with their tech support again even though I have bought from Dell since. They still make good laptops. :)
BTW that was my post previously. Also I love the show Leo and can’t get enough of your podcasts.
