Grace in Burbank - Ebay
She can not edit her IE settings.
This can be due to some security programs e.g. MS Antispyware/defender.
One way around this is to NOT use the “Tools - Internet Options” from within IE, but to go to “Start - Settings and select Internet Options from there. On my machine MS Antispyware or Spybot (can’t remember which) have locked down the options from within IE, but I can still access it from the start - settings menu. Last comment is drop IE and use e.g. Firefox.
Regards,
Robert

After creating the ISO, use Disc Copier to copy the ISO image to a DVD blank and store your original DVD in a safe place to prevent scratches and other damage. Roxio Disc Copier also allows you to choose languages to exclude, as well as copying only the movie instead of all extras, to limit the compression on the final disc.

I had installed a new Display Card that drew enough power to cause the card reader to fail when anything was plugged into the front USB port. The card reader icons would disappear and the device manager would not show these devices. When I unplugged the USB device the card reader worked fine. The rear USB ports were unaffected.

I repair PCs as part of my job. I have found that the business class machines are definitely worth the extra money. They are sturdier, stronger, and more powerful. I recently purchased an HP tc4200 TabletPC. I saved over $1000 by buying refurbished and it has the exact same warranty and features as a new retail item. I paid about $1500 for it with accessories.

I have found some motherboards that allow you to disable the front USB ports on a PC. This is a security feature for kiosk PCs or work PCs that the administrator doesn’t want people to have access to those ports. It’s possible that they default to “off/disabled.”

Password Reset (via CD) will not reset your keychain password. This would be a security hole in the keychain mechanism. The keychain password is only changed via the Keychain Access util, or when you change your login password in System Preferences.
In addition, Keychain passwords are not reset when an admin user resets another user’s password.
If you’ve forgotten your keychain password, and just want to get rid of the annoying dialogs, just toss the ~/Library/Keychains folder, then log out and back in. The system will create a new keychain folder & keychain for you.

If none of the solutions other commentors have posted for Joan in Sacramento work for her. Saving her data might be possible if she has a CDR or other burnable optical media. Burn the data she wants to save on a CD, then use the CD to transfer data to the new drive. That should keep her from having anything that holds any of the settings in her system at the same time as the new drive. It would be nicer to fix the problem but saving data is the bottom line.

Dear Friend,
I always had enjoyed the overall service from your company. However, that changed on Thu 02/09/2006 about 10:00pm.
A service support guy who goes by first name as John, (?); changed the good image and satisfaction that I had.
At the beginning, he shown a tough, arrogant tone of voice, (very fast, flat pitch tone, didn’t even said hi). So far, ok with me.
After following his instructions, he asked what kind of settings I had, where I got that, My response was from the package I received and your website, of course. Following more instructions, I tried to ask him about some advanced settings that I manually changed, but he interrupted me several occasions and finally said: “Are you going to do what I said or what?”
Now that really got me angry. My response was: Well how come somebody changed my configurations (In your Central, from PPPoE to DCHP) without telling me, what the F. (I apologize to you)
Then he yelled: “I dare you that swearing is not allowed to us, is in our terms of service!”
Then I just realized that I was as angry as he was, but hey, I was in a very good mood and happy at the beginning of the call, due to an upgraded router that I just bought.
Anyway, who is he to treat any customer like that, and interrupting before I could even finish my sentences?
I am paying for the service, is not like receiving something for free. If the guy does not like to help people to solve technical problems, I wonder why is he doing working there?
Now that’s very different from every other calls to dsl tech support I ever had. But I will not tolerate this, because this is not what I pay for.
The promise of a better tech support is one of the reasons I moved from Adelphia. But so far I was never treated with such rude, arrogant or impatience way when I was their customer. And I never experienced the connectivity problems that I am having right now with DSL EXTREME.
Therefore, I want to terminate my service immediately. And given the circumstances, I think it would be immoral and ridiculous to charge me for early termination fee. I am requesting you to cancel THE EARLY TERMINATION FEE.
Thank you.

Hey “Arizona Steve”, got news for you …. Apple HASN’T MADE ANYTHING OF THEIR OWN since 1997! The LAST Apple “assembly” facility in the US (near Sacramento, CA was CLOSED September 1997).
Apple had (as in “had made and designed” for them) the first iMac by Hyundai in KOREA! PowerBooks of the early/Mid 90′s were made by IBM/Sony in Japan. Since the late 90′s EVERYTHING Apple sells is made (if your lucky) in Taiwan; OR WORSE Korea and China (all your iPods for example). There is NO SUCH THING as an American Made Mac. Hasn’t existed in 15 years.
Apple, piloted by a very liberal Steve Jobs, was one of the FIRST US computer makers to outsource manufacturing to the “East”; while companies like Gateway and Dell were still manufacturing here or at least Mexico.
Tech support? Well if you think that you’re actually talking to an “Apple Emplyee”, you’re nuts. They are outsourced Phone Support personal (certainly NOT real “Techs”) and you MAY only get to a REAL Apple support person if your issue might likely result in a lawsuit (pretty remote. sport!)
So it’s time that you and the other Mac Droids exit the Fantasyland that you’re living in if you think Apple is “American”. It is, but only in the marketing spin.

Thank you.

Leo,
Let me add to the Dell horor stories. I’ve got three Dell 8400 units with 3-year coverage. (Corporate pricing makes it worth it).
1. Unit one was fine
2. Unit two, was missing the front cover on delivery
3. Unit three had a failed boot drive
On Unit 2, I spent two hours trying to argue with the rep that a software restore wouldn’t do anyhthing as I couldn’t understand how a CD software install would make plastic appear on the case. There’s no point in trying to argue. He INSISTED on my doing a restore. I did it on a spare machine and SURPRISE, the machine in question STILL needed a front cover.
Unit 3, I was again, forced to do a restore — it didn’t work very well, and since I had Spinrite, I KNEW the drive was failing.
Sadly, this is BUSINESS CLASS support. I can only imagine how bad home support must be.

A big feature of multicore processors which Leo left out is ‘virtualllization’, down the road towards the end of this year. It allows you to run two operating systems simultaneously. For users hopelessly hooked on Windows, this means you can run your Firefox browser under a more secure OS (Linux, anyone?) and dodge 100% of the spyware and 98% of the malware out there or coming later.

You’re just another Windoze fanboy who isn’t mature enough
to concede that his OS of choice is archaic, bug-riddled, insecure,
and wasn’t ever a superior technical solution.
UNIX — be it OS X, Linux, or BSD —
is the OS of the present and the near future.
People who currently are running Windoze
can run Linux or BSD on the same hardware — with greater security.
Apple offers a similar solution (without the DIY aspect) —
and without the software/hardware guys pointing fingers at each other.

Leo, the rigamarole with a boot floppy just to format a WinXP drive is unnecessary. Just have him download DBAN, Autoclave, (both very small, a few meg at most) or Ultimate Boot CD (both, very large, but also offers a wealth of tools), use the ISO to burn a booable CD, and use that to erase the drive.

Henchmen? Wow, someone has a chip on their shoulder. I tire very quickly of the PC only shows. They quickly become tech support for windows only.
You’ll notice that the majority of the time spent on Windows problems
is undoing the self-infecting “features” of that OS.
Seems to me if some don’t like the content they shouldn’t listen. A lot of people have benefited from this broadcast. So what if Leo is biased toward a particular OS. There is plenty of good information discussed on his show. I am grateful to have a chance to listen to him. In life people have choices, some choose Microsoft, some are Mac users, some people like Linux. Learn and take what you can and share what’s useful.

Hence, all the FRUIT-lovers will do everything in their power to defend their Leo.
Leo salivates at switching everybody to FRUIT almost as much as Mr. Win.moc does whenever he gets his callers to leave their phone number with him before making a computer purchase. Looks like that Mr. Windows Weenie gets a big chunky commission for every sucker he brings into some under-the-table arangement retailer.

I had a similiar problem on a 128mb kingston digital memory disk.
it ran out of space only half full because the file information table was not large enough to put any more entries in it.
Is it possible you have too many folders in that area and it won’t accept anymore unless you delete some of them or make it larger?

Joan in Sacramento - This seems quite unlikely, but I’ll throw it out there anyways because I can’t think of anything else. It could be that disk quotas somehow got turned on, and so even though there is still space left on the disk, your quota is used up and it won’t let you add anything else. Doesn’t seem likely, but it could be.

Sounds like there are a load Apple Kool Aid Dirinkers and Leo Kool Aid Drinkers that listen to this show. How do you say, delusional?
Leo teaches me to fix computers, electronic gadgets.
He even told me how to vote inthe last election!

I noticed, Leo, that you get harrassed by Truth in Radio. As one of the other guys he talks about, he can’t even get it right that the other guys have a Mac expert on to do Apple stuff on the third Saturday every month.
I’m guessing Mr. Computer Creampuff is getting fairly desparate.

Well see, when Leo was saying for the last three weeks that he was “taking calls for another two hour cause I love to help”, it was BS. He was actually prerecording this show so he could take off and talk on the MacGeek Cruise, instead of telling everyone the truth …. which also tells you how REALLY Biased towards Apple and Mac Leo is!
This is your “honest” KFI “Tech Guy”.

rodneybeaton,
The fact that all of today’s calls are ALREADY listed. Telles me that this show is either a repeat, or these are calls taken after 2:00 PM on previous dates.

“Leo …. I’ll tell you the truth (as long as it benefits Apple) …. those other guys only talk about Windows (Leo will bash Microsoft and Windows for 6 hours per weekend) … and I’ll talk about anything with a chip in it (as long as Apple makes it, or I’ll figure out a way to workl Apple, Macs or how much crap Windows is) every Saturday and Sunday.
This infomercial show is brought to you by Apple.
Now since Leo and his henchmen running this board are libs and don’t consider crticizm as Free Speach, this post will surely be censored and deleted.

Just because ebay has a problem with her account it doesn’t have anything to do with her computer, it’s on their servers. She shouldn’t be installing any toolbars! Too late now but nice to know for the future, Just Say No!
