Spokavriel
(A Drink from Anne McCaffrey's Dragon Riders of Pern Books www.annemccaffrey.org )
Anne’s .org domain is currently having Technical Difficulties please visit till it gets sorted out.
Ingredients and Tools:
- Hershey’s Cocoa powder (not sweetened please do not substitute chocolate milk mix)
- Folgers Coffee (ground for automatic drip, Medium Roast Prefered)
- Cinnamon (I prefer Makara Cinnamon, from Cinnabon, but any will work.
A rich cinnamon will taste better than a hot one.)
- Water (I can’t believe I forgot to mention it in the ingredients earlier)
- Automatic Drip Coffee Machine.
- Measuring Spoons, Coffee scoop and 1/4 cup measuring cup.
- 2 clean coffee Filters
- Add to taste: Creamer, Milk and Sugar
Method:
First make sure that the filter basket and the Carafe of the coffee maker are as clean as you can get them you may get a clog and have the machine overflow from the filter if it is dirty.
Next take one of the 2 filters and place 1/4 cup of Cocoa powder in it. Fill the carafe up to the top cup measurment for your machine, preferably not all the way up. Run the water thru the cocoa letting it cool or adding in a little cold water between runs. Repeat the cycle till it comes out as dark as you would normally brew your coffee. Usually 3–4 cycles.
After the Cocoa water is ready now is a good time to dispose of the remaining wet chocolate and place in the new filter add 1/8–1/4tsp. to taste cinnamon into the filter mix it with 3–4 scoops of Folgers Grounds also based on personal preference. Putting the cinnamon on the bottom of the filter also may clog it so please mix it in well. Run the Cocoa water thru this mix.
That is all that the machine is needed for. All that remains is adding cream and sugar and enjoying the resultant brew. A Word of Caution: do not use too much sugar the caffeine is almost unimaginably high in this drink!!
My Prefered cup of Klah:
In a 12oz mug
- 1.5oz Suger
- 8.0oz Prepared Klah
- 1.5oz Powdered Non-Dairy Creamer
- 1.0oz Milk
I mix the Suger and non dairy creamer together first then use the hot Klah to disolve it. Topping off the cup with Whole Milk. If you would rather use a liquid Creamer or Half and Half it is always best to add cooler liquids to the cup after the suger is disolved.
