IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. IRC is used for group communication without any registration.
IRC was created by Jarkko Oikarinen in 1988. IRC is used by many people from many demographics.

There are many irc commands that are useful if you want to have the full experience of IRC.
/join is used to join another channel, for example, if you wanted to join #townsquare, you would type /join #townsquare. It’s that easy!
This command is useful if you want to refer to youreself. For example, if your nickname is CoolGuy, when you type “/me likes soda” you get “CoolGuy likes soda.”
EPIC is a great text based IRC client wich is available in RPM form on most RPM mirror sites as well as in compillable form from their website.
XChat is a great Linux/Windows IRC client.
mIRC is a very popular client which has scripting capabilities. Trillian is a great IRC client which also has capabilities for MSN, Yahoo, AIM, and ICQ
