I’m not looking to step on any toes. So, where is the appropriate place to ask tech. questions?

Leo answers: There aren’t enough hours in the day for me to answer all the questions I get asked. That’s why there’s no where on this site to ask questions. If you have a tech problem or question and can’t call my radio or TV shows, try the Leoville Message Boards. There’s an excellent Tech Help section there with lots of people who can answer almost any question. Thanks for listening!

scott – at 19:08

IThink this wiki is better than the original one but I still like Mediawiki bester than Pmwiki

PS. People Stop posting your tech help problems here.

i am annoyed with popup ads. this is probably an issue that has been discussed in the past. could you please refer me to the show so i can read about it. i am using windows 98 as a operating system

Hard to get used to the changes. For those who don’t like lavender, how about a light turquoise sort of green, studies say its really easy on the eyes. Problem is that it is so common. This bluish is unlike all the others and I don’t object to it.

I’m missing the automatic referenxce aspect and hope that you have considered it. I would like to see original comment or question with double black lines as header and footer, then all comments related to that item could be inset about 5 spaces, indent, and at the end a big black double footer that is the same as the top and bottom of the orgiginator comment By the way love your show, am learning a lot.

I’m trying to get to the SmartDisk site to update my firmware. CANNOT get into the site. I’ve tried it on Firefox and IE. Any ideas? [The item is till being offered for sale so it appears that the company is still in business.]

Mike in Murrieta – at 13:38

All, I can’t figure out how to get KFIs stream on my mac mini-I even installed IE for mac from the KFI site, but it still says I need a “plug in”, whatever that is. As you can tell, I’m not a “computer whiz”. Can anyone help? A related, but minor issue is, IE won’t launch from the desktop icon, only from the hard drive. Do I even need IE, or will safari work? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

gumbynuff – at 12:28

Leo….
I cannot remane files
when I go to rename a file by typing in a new name and hit enter it tells me

“If you change a filename extension, the file may become unuseable, Are you sure you want to change it?”

If I say yes it changes the files apperance to look like a window and when clicked upon it pops up an “open with “ window

If you choose a program to open the file with you cannot click the button “always open files of this type with this program”

help!!!

c-Lynn – at 12:21

LEO, for the lady who cannot locate her files after loading the Firefox applications…
Have her investigate her system to see if anything was encrypted…
she should attempt to unencrypt and/all files, and see if the ‘missing files’ reappear.
Running the ‘unencrypt’ process will not hurt anythin - but may reveal any files that were inadvertently encrypted…

Hi Leo, can you talk some more about digital signatures. The small company I work for takes way too much time faxing to customers who are supposed to fax back their signature. Can we get out of this insane business process?

Jacob – at 12:09

Leo, I like the new look, and it’s about time they added simultaneous edit protection my edits kept getting deleted by other people overwriting them.

Leo, is there a feature where a specific user could set their own UI settings?

you were talking about google maps. just to inform your listeners, google aslo has the mobile directions. you can actually text googl (46645) type in the address where you are coming from and going to and in a minute or two it texts back directions.

Leo,

Where the heck do you find the time to do everything that you do? I mean you have Call For Help, Twit and are on numerous other podcasts.

Hey Leo:

Typo: You’ve got that Safari has “a batter KHTML core”. Sure like to try that with sweet-and-sour sauce!

Leo, I like the Lavender kind of relaxing, calming after todays events. Love the pod cast of the shows, they make time go bye faster at work where no AM signals can reach me:( I love even more the geek cast from you guys every week.

Thanks for it all.

Bob – at 20:26

any good efax company that is reliable and a flat rate?

cool! looks great now.

Leo Laporte – at 15:33

OK I’m making the main body wider - that pushed the Google ads off the page and I’m afraid people will ignore them, but there you go.

If I can figure it out I’ll move to an elastic layout that allows you to stretch the body to a size that suits you.

Ryan – at 14:33

I think its alright, Im not a lavender guy either :) but its better than the default wiki

owine – at 14:03

not a lavender man myself… also, it should be wider… the menu on the left is too slim… maybe youre trying to slim yourself in the pics ;P. the wideness and lavendar are the only things i dont like. nice wiki anyway, it does a nice job with the shownotes with same code style.

Leo Laporte – at 13:41

You’re breaking my heart here. ;-) I’m no designer. What don’t you like specifically? Got any suggestions? Links to sites you like a lot? I’m very open to suggestion.

Having said that I am getting a professional redesign on all the Leoville sites from some REAL pros, so this is just temporary anyway.

Let me guess - you hate the lavander!

owine – at 13:34

yeah… umm… the design is ugly… sorry to say…

Matt – at 12:02

It looks much cleaner! Nice…

A listener – at 12:01

I wonder if you need to use a password to add comments?

David Moore – at 10:57

Honestly, I thought it looked better before, but I’ll get used to it. I really enjoy all of your shows Leo. I think my favorite would have to be the radio show because of the phone calls, and it gives me an excuse to sit in front of my computer for 6 hours every weekend. Keep up the excellent work and I look forward to listening to you for many years to come.

Leo Laporte – at 06:57

What do you think of the new wiki? Design? Cosmetic issues? Bugs? Put your thoughts here. Thanks!

LEO, for the lady who cannot locate her files after loading the Firefox applications…
Have her investigate her system to see if anything was encrypted…
she should attempt to unencrypt and/all files, and see if the ‘missing files’ reappear.
Running the ‘unencrypt’ process will not hurt anythin - but may reveal any files that were inadvertently encrypted…

best regards,
C-Lynn

OK I’m making the main body wider - that pushed the Google ads off the page and I’m afraid people will ignore them, but there you go.

If I can figure it out I’ll move to an elastic layout that allows you to stretch the body to a size that suits you.

OK I’m making the main body wider - that pushed the Google ads off the page and I’m afraid people will ignore them, but there you go.

If I can figure it out I’ll move to an elastic layout that allows you to stretch the body to a size that suits you.

Let me guess - you have the lavendar!

I think my favorite would have to be the radio show because of the phone calls, and it gives me an excuse to sit in front of my computer for 6 hours every weekend. Keep up the excellent work and I look forward to listening to you for many years to come.

I‘ve upgraded our site’s software to pmwiki-2.2.0-beta19. There are some significant changes in the markup, so before you add to the wiki you might want to look at the Basic Editing and Text Formatting Rules. There’s also a quick reference at the bottom of every edit page. More advanced users should read about the Extended Markup, as well (there are some examples in the WikiSandbox.

The conversion seems to have gone pretty well, considering how significant the changes are. You might notice some odd cosmetic effects, and other weirdnesses. I’m working to track down all the bugs but most things should be working ok.

Some of the benefits: spam protection, better security, and simultaneous edit protection. If you’re about to save an edit that will overwrite someone else’s changes you’ll get a warning, and the page will save both versions. It’s about time!
