Creating a Bootable Anti-Virus CD is fairly easy, in this step by step tutorial I will show you everything you need.

Software:

In this tutorial I will use CDBurnerXP Pro 3, but the process is the same in most respects in Nero.

Extracting AVG boot files.

  • Open up AVG, usally Start>All Programs>AVG Free Edition>AVG Free Edition for Windows

You will get a window that looks like this:[1]

  • Click Service>Rescue Disk or Hold down Ctrl+F8

You will then see this window:[2]

  • Click Next >>

You will get a window that looks like this:[3]

  • Uncheck Backup file of your computer’s system’s areas

While AVG recommends backing up the system files, I don’t recommend this, the main reason is it is easier to use reinstall/repair or use system restore and probably much more stable.

  • Click Next >> and you will get this window:[4]

Input any path you would like I used C:\AVG\ remember this path as you will need it to burn the AVG files to a CD. AVG will then save the required files to the path you specified.

Now just use your software’s built in boot disk, or you can download a .IMA file (Image of a floppy) that will make your CD bootable, consult your burning application documentation for more.
