James Hess writes: Most people know that Internet Explorer has security problems. The problem is that most people don’t know about other browsers besides Internet Explorer. In this article we will talk about other browsers and their pros and cons. KFI listeners, feel free to add to this article and fix any mistakes. Now, lets dive into the world of browsers.
Browsers on the Windows Platform
Mozilla - People who have used Netscape will find this browser very similar to NS. It is based off of the fast Gecko core. It has built in email, newsgroups, IRC (Internet Relay Chat), and an HTML editor. This browser is brought to you free from the Mozilla Group.
Mozilla Firefox - Mozilla Firefox is a light but feature packed browser built on the Gecko core. It is fast, free, and renders pages the way they should be seen. It comes with built in Google Search, pop-up blocker, tabbed browsing, and a slew of themes and extensions to make it your best browsing experience. This browser is also from the Mozilla Group.
K-Meleon - An opensource, small (±5.3MB) and (veery) simple browser. Like Mozilla Group browsers, K-Meleon is also based on the Gecko layout engine. The GUI is fairly similar to Firefox but not as powerful and user-friendly. It’s fully customizeble, from skins to special add-on features. However, you’d need to do it yourself, adding in those scripts.
Opera - Opera is an amazing browser. It comes with a sleek interface and an amazing pack of features.

- Safari - Apple’s own web browser. Safari has a opensource web pages rendering core based on Konqueror’s KHTML engine from KDE. In return, the Apple’s Safari team has join the KDE’s Konqueror project team in development of a batter KHTML core.
- Omniweb - Leo’s favorite browser on the Mac. What more need I say?

- Camino - Open source browser based off of Mozilla Gecko and has OS X native interface. Originally named Chimera.
- iCab -
- Internet Explorer for Mac - Still available, but no longer being developed by Microsoft. Unless you have a specific reason for using it, you’re probably better off using one of the other Mac browsers.
- Shiira- Made by some japanesse guys, it allowes you to change your user-agent to anything you want, so it looks like you are using a different operating system with a diferent browser. added by fernyb
